LB1 LED Light Bar

Scott M

Question

I just got this light bar in the mail from. I made this purchase after reading about this product on the ice fishing forum under the thread "Lighting for portable" I got the bar today and I bought the connector and hooked it up.....and no light. My battery has a full charge. Am I missing something or did I get a dud? Speculations and help greatly appreciated.

I use two of the 1 foot LB1s in my Polar Sport Nordic two man shelter. These put out a respectable amount of light. I could do delicate work with them but I switch on my LED headlamp to make things easier. I think they would be even better if I rigged up a reflector behind them.

I have 2 of the LB1 in my fish trap Voyager, with a space blanket on the ceiling and it is enough light for me to do everything I need to do. If you like it super bright you could put in another one or just use your headlight which you almost have to have for packing up. I think it is a much better option than the rope lights, tho it is more expensive.

I have 3 in my otter lodge, and they are nice!! I ordered 2, but they sent me 3 by mistake!! I have 2 pointing down to the holes, and one overhead to tie lures and find your beer in the sled. Have gone all night on a vex battery with no problems at all.

How are you guys sealing and mounting these? This is a realtively cheap solution, but I am worried about the environmental stuff. On the HSOforum the also have a LED Accent Light Module, all sealed and ready to go. Would be nice to mount in the tub for lighting the tub to find that beer you just dropped!

Has anyone experimented with different color LEDs in different color houses or various conditions? The LB2 in blue has probably the most Luminous output for supply current. Just an idea.

Eyz, I used 1 Inch flexable tubing and used pvc pipe caps and then drilled a hole to run the wires. Then I just zip tied them to the poles. I have 3 white lb1's and that is a lot of good even light in a otter lodge. I'm not sure how your eyes would stand up with the blue light for hours.

I bought the LB1 bar, and with it a $2.50 extra undergravel filter tube located at any pet or aquarium shop, a tube of silicone ($2.50), 6 feet of bulk red and black wire at an ace hardware store ($1.00), alligator clips ($1.50), and a roll of 3M velcro ($5.00). I extended the cable lines, added the alligator clips, and silicone-closed the end of the light bar. I finished by strapping it up wherever I want with the velcro. It puts out an adequate amount of light for my needs in a clam 5600. I also drape the gander mountain rope lights right next to the holes I fish and pack and unpack those with the light bar. (I haven't had any LEDs burnt out unlike other FMers. Maybe because I pack them up and don't leave them up...I don't like having the lights zip-tied and unmovable. I suspect that the rope lights aren't made to take the beating associated with being crushed in a sled or beat around while zip-tied down) I pack and unpack with a cheap Energizer LED headlamp. Superbrightleds.com is the place to got those LB1s. If you can, get two LB1s.

Use high quality rubber-bands to attach the Light tube to the overhead frame tubing. The rubber bands are great as you can: 1) rotate the tube to adjust level of lighting; 2) easy removal of tube; and, 3) the rubber acts as somewhat of a shock absorber to reduce stress on the Rube. My next "improvement" will be to hide the wires by stringing them through the tubing and put connectors next to the tube so I can us it in another house.

You may want to check out my post under the lighting for portable thread in the ice fishing section. I have pictures of a light similar to the LB1 that is totally enclosed and I also ran the wires through the frame of my otter cabin.
