Amsoil in New Auger

Midnight-2

Recommended Posts

I will be getting my first power auger after Christmas. I have read some things about Amsoil. I have heard that it improves the performance of an auger from easier starting to the way it runs. I am not familiar with this product, do you just use it instead of regular 2-cycle oil or is it an additive? I would like to start with the best products right from the start. Any input would be apprecitated and put to good use. Thanks! smile.gif

I run Amsoil in all my Auger, Lawnmowers, Snowblower, weedeaters, leafblowers etc and Im happy with it. Clean burning and easy starts. Just make sure you break it in at a richer mix than 100 to 1. I think I broke in my Nilsmaster at a 70-1 mix the 1st 2 tanks than 100-1.

I would check with your auger company and ask them what they recomend for a break in ratio.

I will also vouch for the Amsoil. I run it in everything I own. 4-wheelers, Truck, snowblowers, etc. I even have to put it into my wifes new Trailblazer we got last night. It is a great product. No smoke, increased performance. I am a believer..

I thought I remember reading in one of the many Amsoil threads that you shouldn't use it to break in an auger (something to do with it being synthetic?). Use the recommended ratio with a regular 2-cycle oil for break in and then switch to Amsoil. This is just what I read in another thread so I thought I would throw it out there.

Amsoil is good stuff but DON'T use it to break in your auger. It's lubricity is just too good and the metal parts inside the auger won't break in well. Use conventional oil for the first tank or two then switch to the synthetic stuff. Your auger will thank you.

I’m confused and could use some help. confused.gif

I purchase 4 bottles of this Amsoil at the Ice show earlier this month. When I spoke to the sales rep at the show I asked him which oil would be best for my Strikemaster Auger.

He grabbed an 8-ounce bottle and handed it to me and said, “this is what I should use”. I said, “OK well what can I use in my 25 HP Johnson Outboard”? He said, “Same thing will work great for both and your Weed Eater, Yard Blower, Chain Saw or any 2 cycle engine I might have”.

Well now when I look at their HSOforum the bottle I have does not look like any of the selection they list. The TWO-CYCLE OIL RECOMMENDATION chart shows what is “Recommended” for an outboard pre-mix is “Not Recommended” for the smaller two-cycle engines, and what is “Recommended” for smaller two-cycle engines is “Not Recommended” for outboard pre-mix engines.

How do I know what oil I have?? I hate to use what I have mixed up in either engine now.(obviously I don't need my outboard this time of year)

Do any of you guys use the same Amsoil oil for an outboard and a smaller engine??

Any advice would be appreciated...

This is what the bottles I have look like.

You should be using Amsoil Saber Professional in your auger. You should be using Amsoil Saber Outboard in your outboard only if you pre mix. It is not for direct injection.

I sent an e-mail to Amsoil myself about whether to start right off the bat using there oil and they said use the OEM oil the Auger mnfg. recomends, and if you have a new/defective engine, using said oil will eliminate any waranty question. Use there recomendation for the first tank, then switch to Amsoil.
