My 8"lazer has worked perfect for years. Last year while cutting holes my attention was needed elseware. I handed the auger to my son, "6'5" at about 260 pounds". I explained that you don't have to lean on it and continue cutting holes. Later in the day I went to cut some holes in a differant area and it was cutting very slow. I had a set of new blades and installed them. No differance in the cutting.

Upon returning from the outting, I contacted Strikemaster and was instructed to bring it in to there shop in Big Lake.

The fellow there took it and went to another room. About 5 minutes later he returned and explained that he made some adjustments to the blade mounting area and it should cut better. If not, I should bring it back. I did not have to return as it preformed as it had prior to my sons use.

I enquired as to what caused this problem and came to a determination that one does not need to lean on an auger.

I also later took in a Chipper auger and had it adjusted.

It also preformed better.

I didn't mention a cost because there wasn't one... grin.gif

Good Luck...

Not only will it work but it works great! I did this 4 years ago and couldn't believe the difference. I even think it's faster through the Ice than the Lazer augers. Sometimes slower revolutions cut faster (just like regular drill bits through metal/wood). They also don't throw the Ice shavings all over the place. I have raced my dad's Lazer with my Mag III and beat him. He even had brand new blades.

Good luck,

My dad purchased a 10" strikemaster a couple years ago and it cut very slow. He contacted the company and they said they were having problems with the 10". So they sent him a 8" lazer with an extra set of blades for free. That thing flies through the ice now.

Some of the biggest mistakes I have seen people do is to force down on top of the auger to make it drill faster and to bang them on the ice. Forcing them down just slows down the motor which does you no good at all. Both of these things will also change the pitch in which the blades drill. This results in a slower to much slower cutting auger.

I run only 10" and yes it may cut slower then the 6 or 8" by a few seconds but not enough that I am going to be concerned with. I have been running Strikemaster for about 7 or 8 years and I have been very happy with mine. Keep a sharp set of blades on them and they will cut very well.
