Just put the rods away

Finally did it last night and put the rods in the basement, the reels are ready for their annual cleaning/lubing. What a terrible feeling. Time to get some new lures for next year, sharpen hooks, and make some bucktails and spinnerbaits.

Yep, I did the same thing a few days ago. I already can't wait for next season. I'll be looking for number two. I was getting a little worried toward the end of this season that I wasn't going to get my first...luckily I did. This gives me something to look forward to next season. But for now, bring on the ice!

Heck no! I will fish until I cannot push the boat through the ice any longer. You guys are giving up the best time of the year. Three of my biggest fish (53.5, 52.25. 52)all came in late fall when it was snowing. Fine- quit confused.gif more fish for me! grin.gif

Everyone should give up for the year! I was out Sunday, Monday and Tuesday....haven't seen another boat on the water since Saturday. Unfortunately, this wind today has me sitting at home....

Its too bad that hunting and musky fishing just don't mix well once Sept rolls around. Maybe one of these years I'll get my tags filled early and have more time to bundle up and chase Girtha(not my old girlfriend smirk.gif)

Jon, I heard a horrible rumor that muskies have trouble seeing the color RED once the water temps get below 45 degrees

I must admit the red is put away this time of the year and the blue, silver and chrome get first posistion.

I could definitely be talked into going out this weekend for a few hours on WBL if anyone is interested. I have a Lund 1700 Fisherman so there is room for another guy or two. I have fished WBL around 50 times over the last few years and have had a bunch of follows but only hooked up once. She got off right next to the boat when I was grabbing the net! If anyone is interested, email me before 4:30 at: dsmith(at)pgicompanies(dot)com or hockeyguy(at)netzezero(dot)net after 4:30. I would like to go around 7:30ish, but I’m flexible. How about you Jon? You sound like you might be the guy that can help me actually get one in the boat!

Hockey Guy, Sorry dude I didn't check the forums until I came back in today, and what a day today was! A 15-20 something musky (i hope it wasn't a new addition to the lake), a 38", a 42" and I had a NICE fish (Lals/cjac know) snap on the third or fourth round of a figure 8. She had just one of the rear hooks on a believer on the very end of her upper lip. I held her for a few short runs and as soon as she shook her head out of the water it was all done. Lots of follows and bass to boot.

Jon,

It sounds like I missed a great day! Story of my life. confused.gif I was going to go this morning but I decided not to at the last minute. My boat has a pretty high bunk trailer and as a result it’s a little tough to get in and out at the WBL launch when I’m by myself. I really have the itch to go now. Do you have any interest in going Sunday morning? I could be up there by 9:00 or so but I would only be able to fish until 12:30 – 1:00. Let me know if your interested by posting here or my netzero email account. I will check both tonight during the Gopher game and again when I get home from hockey at 1:00 AM.

Hockey Guy,

I am game for Sunday morning if it still works for you. Let me know -- I will check Sunday AM. Thanks. Lals

PS. My boat is in storage but I do have a few sticks available

Lals,

I've only been to one landing on WBL but I know there is two. The one I use is the one that I had to pay $30 for a sticker on my trailer. Why don't you meet me there at 9:00. I hope you don't mind but I have to leave between 12:00 and 1:00. I only have lures in my boat and that's all I have ever used. If you want to use live bait you'll have to pick some up and show me how to use it. I will check this post again at 9:30 PM and 1:00 AM tonight. I will also check before I leave in the morning. You should check in the morning as well in case something crazy comes up. As for now, I will plan on seeing you at 9:00 AM. It's possible that one other guy may join us but it's highly unlikely. He plays on my team and has trouble getting out of the house to fish. He is going to let me know tonight at hockey so I won't know until then. May the fish God's smile upon us!

Hockey Guy,

Sounds great! I know the launch you are talking about. I will meet you there at 9:00. Actually sucker fishing is new to me as well, so I will plan to bring only lures. I will check this once more before I leave for the launch.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
