howwedoin
My brilliant father in law decided to bring his gas auger to me to use last year. I was under the impression he gave it to me as a trade for the refrigerator I had that he wanted....he took it when I wasn't there, just told my wife (his daughter) that since he was there he would take the refrigerator. He was to pay me $25 for the refrigerator though...I KNOW REALLY CONFUSING! Anyways he didn't know where it was and I haven't ever heard of him ice fishing in the 7 years I've known my wife so I thought he wouldn't miss it. I'm really anxious for the ice to form to get back out and go ice fishing. I don't have any type of shelter and the only thing keeping me from going was the hand auger "LABRAT" from FM was kind enough to hand down to me - 2 feet of ice is hell to go through. Anyways my father in law was over at my house tilling up my leaf pile and asked my wife if the garage was open. Puzzled why she said yes. He went into my garage and took it. [PoorWordUsage]!!!!!!!!! So here is a happy auger in my garage getting used but now it's in his junk pile in his garage not getting used and here I am [PoorWordUsage]ed and sad that my ice fishing season has a huge dent in it. I have an offer for a friends auger which helps. Anyone else have horror stories or want to vent?
hoggs222
Last year I didn't get to go ice fishing for a whole weekend! That's a tragedy in itself!
riverrat56
One time it rained while i was ice fishing and I couldn't get off the lake because I left my cleets in the truck and it was to slippery. So i sat back down and kept on fishing, wait that wasn't a bad thing.....
hoggs222
There was one time a few years ago. I was on Buffalo & woke up in the morning and looked outside. It had been so warm that there was about 6" of water on the ice. It was windy, so it looked like a river out there. Time to pack up & get off of the ice. Then the truck couldn't get any grip on the surface & the tire of the fish house got stuck in one of the holes. After about a half hour of getting soaked, we got it out.
Bob_D
3 (?) years ago, I had all my ice fishing gear stolen out of my shanty that was ON MY LAWN. I had just put it there because I was getting ready to move it out onto the ice. I lost a power auger, 30 tip-ups, jigging rods, tackle, etc. You name it, they got it. I had insurance, but there was a $500 deductable.
Blaze
howwedoin - I've got an idea: how about ASKING your father-in-law what he plans on doing with the auger? If he plans on ice fishing again, see if you can join him. If he's just repossessing the thing for the sake of "ownership", offer him a few bucks to buy it off him. Just some ideas.... By the way, this certainly doesn't mean your season is ruined. Global warming is about the only thing that could toast ice fishing for me.
Eiger0304
Drive to his place and get your refrigerator back. Then start over.
howwedoin
Well my wife said he mentioned something about drilling post holes. hmmm it's a little late for that not to mention the bit is old and ISN'T AN EARTH BIT! He came to my house once to snake out toilet (I was going to call a plumber), wanted payment to snake my toilet, I would never do that to my kid. He's cheap and plays games, even cheap to his daughter. The only way I'll go ice fishing with him is if I have a gun to my head. I might have a deal with a friend for a gas auger so I'm not hurting too bad. So much for building my ice house now. I just need to vent, the people here have the same interest in ice fishing. I hope they would understand due to the circumstances.
river rat316
Yep my Father in law is a first class *ss to! It sounds like something he would do, my wife always wants me to take him fishing, and I tell her if she wants her dad thrown in the river to keep it up! howwedoin
LOL I'm working on getting a friends auger for a fair price so it's getting better. I just avoid the ice fishing topic all together with him so I don't get him interested. He has an auger, he's gone ice fishing before....go by yourself, that's what I do. We're having a baby in March so I want to enjoy as much of this years ice fishing season as I can.
Eric Wettschreck
Go in with a couple of good buds on a shelter and auger. No need to worry bout it after that.
PerchJerker
I also have a father-in-law that's a real tool. It's a bummer, I have occasionally hunted or fished or golfed with him but I pretty much hate every minute of it and try as hard as I can to avoid it. Those of you that have in-laws that you can do this stuff with are LUCKY!
