fishyguy
That wasn't the first Packer game you guys ever saw, was it? Maas certainly isn't the first or only one to fall all over Farve. He isn't even the worst. The ESPN crew and Madden are worse yet. I have no problem with a announcer or analyst expressing their appreciation for talent or approach to the game but it does get way out of hand for Farve. It is like watching a 3 hour documentary on Farve every week.

It is like watching a 3 hour documentary on Farve every week. I know what you're saying, I have seen my fair share of Packers games and know how Favre is talked about like he is an immortal. This was not about Favre. Maas was referring to the the Pack in terms of "We". He finished his career in 1993 with the Pack and was calling the game as if he was standing on his old team's sideline!! The most obvious example was during one of Favre's intentional groundings and their was not a receiver within 20 yards and Maas doesn't understand the call. Later in the game Grossman throws a pass at the feet of his running back Jones and does not get called for intentional grounding, well, Maas goes ballistic and begins his rant. Well, Dick Stockton chimes in and "calls out" Bill Maas and his "homer" interpretation of the intetional grounding rule. Mass was not too happy about that one. Maybe Maas tried to put on a show for his Wisconsin faithful on a night when he knew a lot of people would be watching. Or he was trying to establish himself as the next "Madden". He basically made a fool of himself.
buzzsaw
Good for Stockton, I was watching the Gophers/Virginia bowl game today and both of the clowns announcing it were so pro Virginia (for some unknown reason) it was ridiculous! They drive down to tie the score at 31 up and it was like whoo hooo... what a great QB blah blah blah and then we punt it away and there great QB throws a horrible interception and the announcers were so blah, you would have thought it was their college team that just got picked off! Anyways my point is that it happens on all levels and I agree... it is very annoying!
buzzsaw
I know, I know... the game didn't matter right, who needs momentum anyways?? NOT the mighty Bears! I sat 9 rows up with my 2 1/2 year old son and we enjoyed the spanking... he didn't like the loud cannon too much but adjusted. Bears fans will disagree, but they wouldn't have beat Minnesota with their starters in for the whole game. Not on turf and not today.
Windy City Walleye Hunter
Boy Buzz, when you're right, you're right. The Bears could never have beaten the Queens, not today, not with their 1 string in that had held the league to the fewest points this season. Look what they did last time with their 2nd string QB, look at how the Queens dominated the Bears....oh wait, they lost to the Bears, never mind. And you are right, the Bears have lost all momentum, they might as well not even show up on Jan 14 or 15th since they will have been off for two weeks. They should have lost a few more games during the regular season so they could be playing next week in the wildcard game and then play the next week to keep the "momentum" going, rather than dominate their schedule and get 2nd seed in the playoffs with home field advantage. That would be the smart thing to do. Look at what the trouncing got Mike Tice!!! I sure hope the "rusty" Bears manage to find their way to the field in two weeks and I hope that Rex Grossman remembers some of the plays after being off for two weeks. Nice photos though, too bad they didn't have any of the Bears starters in them.BEAR DOWN...CHICAGO BEARS!
buzzsaw
Quote: The only thing Chicago really had to play for was a franchise record for fewest points allowed, 187 set by the 1986 squad. But a season-high 34 points surrendered raised the total to 202, and the Bears also gave up a season-high 396 yards I know they had nothing to play for, I was eggin' ya on old buddy... kinda like the baseball season, only reversed. You guys really need Grossman to play very well or you probably can't keep hoping on getting all of those miraculous breaks that you've gotten all year in the playoffs... whatcha think? Bobby Bass
Funny how Grossman plays for 6 quarters and is now the Chicago savior and someone who led them to 10 wins is nothing but a backup.. And the Vikes beat the 10 win back up. A good point was made on the air about being a pro and when you reach this level of play you deserve to be on the field. All I know is that Chicago had 11 players on the field every play as did the Vikes..In the record books it goes as a win..

Windy City Walleye Hunter
I know you were Buzz, but like a hungry walleye, I just had to take the bait. Stats are for the losers to look at to make themselves look better than they actually were. Kind of like the Sox this year with no player batting .300 on the World Series (God, I love saying that) Champion Chicago White Sox. I think the Bears did the right thing by keeping the starters on the sideline, if they had played, that might have given the Queens more incentive to hit harder and maybe take a few prisoners out with injuries. Better to win the war than just a battle and the Bears will do battle again, the only battle the Queens have will be with their fans and their new owner who has about as much class as a hooker in a trailer park, what a tool, would it have killed him to wait a day or two and let Tice enjoy his last victory? He could have looked like he thought about the decision for a while. Instead he probably has angered about 50% of the fans, I know from reading that the players were none to happy to hear the news that night. Anyway, I hope you practice catch and release and take that darn hook out of the corner of my mouth. Go Bears and as usual...YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD...YES! Tice made the statement that he wanted to know right away and Ziggy obliged... I don't have an bad feelings for him at all. As far as the players are concerned, Tice is known as a players coach so some hurt feelings doesn't bother me. We need a coach to come in here and get some of the younger players to focus more. (thats a big reference to the O-line taking many false starts) I heard through people that know Ziggy well that he runs a tight ship, I guess this proves it to some extent. I think his feelings are that if he is to get a new stadium he will need to clean house and show the community that he is committed to having an upstanding organization.... Not that it was Tice's fault, but he was the coach who was in charge when the "Love boat" thing went down and he scalped SB tickets when he knew it wasn't allowed to do. I'm not sure who they will bring in??? Ditka or the ghost of Halas but I hope we draft a few offensive linemen and a stud LB and a................ the list goes on and on.... ew there is a song coming on there!! Bobby Bass I am the Bears fan and I agree with your statement 100% about Grossman being the savior. There was a comparison done last week comparing career stats of Orton and Grossman and they are almost dead equal. The only advantage Grossman really had was yards per play, which I guess is probably a pretty important factor. It is hard to take anything away from Kyle Orton or Brad Johnson. Buzzsaw, Since you were at the game, I have a question for you. Was the Metrodump as empty as it looked on the television broadcast? I don't get to NFL games, mostly beacause of cost and availability, but I considered going to this one. Glad I didn't due to the slappy lineup the Bears played for a majority of the game. Buzzy start a new thread with your comments or thoughts on the Mason extension at the U of M. I am a Purdue Alum and I am confused about the U of M thinking on Mason. Windy City Walleye Hunter
Buzz,I think that the only reason they let Jones play the few minutes that he did was to be the second Bear running back to break the 1300 yard mark or something like that. After he set the record, I think they got him out pretty quick though I did not watch much of the game, I'm saving myself for the second round of the playoffs when the real Bears will be playing. TNFL
From my previos post way back on december the first. Quote: The bears will not go far, because they are not balanced. One defender slips giving up a long TD and it will be game over, bears lose. They just can't score. I guess when I'm right, I'm right. Sure, the bears put up a few points, but lets be honest.(eight first downs via penalty)
