Opening Weekend weahter

Recommended Posts

I just checked the weather for gun opener and they are predicting partly cloudy skies, winds out of the south at 7, high temp of 43 and the low of 27. Would this be good for opener. I personally like it a little cooler so there could be some snow on the ground. What does everyone think?

I'd prefer it colder, but we've certainly had worse weather. Light winds are good, the deer are more likely to move. It's a lot better than the 70+ stuff we had a few years back, that was horrible. The woods are very dry, a squirrel sounds like a buffalo other than the step patterns are obviously squirrel like.

If it gets down that cold at night, deer hanging in a dark shed should be fine for several days at least.

When I was a kid deer opener was almost always cold, snow on the ground and ponds were frozen enough to support an ATV.

I didn't deer hunt that warm year, duck hunting was much more fun. That was 3-4 years ago?

2 years ago I was sitting in my stand opening morning with -15 below! My zipper froze on my jacket, 1/4" of frost build up. shocked.gif

Last year was ok.

This year I will take highs in the 40's, but frosty mornings would put icing on the cake. I predict the rut will be in high gear this season! I can't wait!

Yeah, this warm weather is getting old. I prefer to have snow on the ground and temps around 25 or so. Just perfect to sit in the stand and not get cold. However i will take the 40's over two years ago when it was terribly cold.
