How to prevent Break In

Has anybody devised an effective scheme to prevent break-ins?? Is there a 12 volt burgler alarm? Does a real quality dead bolt help. Does a satellite dish advertise for burglary? Thanks in advance for any info, experences.

So, what about furnaces and cooktops that are mounted inside? Is there a market for those, too? I am comtemplating making a quick detach for the Strikemaster stove that was included in my purchase, or maybe secure it moreso and strip the heads of the screws/ bolts to make removal a destructive effort. Any thoughts? Thanks, McGurk

It's a shame the legal ramifications of leaving a "surprise" (not lethal, but perhaps disabling) for intruders are so great.

I could actually see doing six months in the county lockup if I knew that some sticky fingers wouldn't steal from others.

But, then again, maybe I'm just having a difficult day and am feeling a little meaner than usual. smirk.gif

I would take most stuff out of fish house when I leave, including the TV. Do you think a posting on the door saying: all valuables, including TV, have been removed, ect would help? Is there a market for the Dish itself (this would stay)?

Sad to think about, but I have to admit it, a little fun too! There are lots of things that could be done to your own fishhouse, and after a couple pathetic waste-of-flesh theives get caught redhanded (or bruised-shinnedgrin.gif) they might think twice about committing this spineless punk-a$$ cowardly act. If rumors like that spread as fast as rumors of a good bite do, these lakes might actually be left alone. Just a cheery thought.

Something we take to be so cherished defouled in such a manner. I guess I'll empty the house EVERYTIME and not leave any break-in-bait around. No bait, no fish, right?

Frustratingly, McGurk

I'd personally take the dish, too. It doesn't take too much to set it up when you want it. The more you do it the faster you get and the mast can stay along with the RG-6 cable. A hassle, but not as big of a hassle as it could be walking into a trashed house! McGurk

The only thing you can do is take everything home. If they want in, and your lock is a hassle your house will get trashed. It sucks.

I have a wall heater and cook top and when my house has been broken into they weren't stolen.

I think it's mainly electronics, generators and ice augers that they want, but I guess if there's value it's a potential target. In my opinion a single LNB satellite dish wouldn't be worth stealing since they aren't worth anything any more.

Just either remove anything of value, or get used to not sleeping well at night.

Personally, I just bit the bullet and bought a drop down house. It stays hooked to my truck, and when I go home it goes with. It takes no longer to set up than a portable or a permanent.

welll this is what i have done along with leaving all curtains open and all storage doors open along with a threatening sign on the door about how i DO work with and am liscensed for explosives i have installed the following

1 a solar recharged dual spotlight with a motion detector. availble from a couple of sources and when someone gets within 75' from the front of my house is comes on

2 i have a working security keypad that beeps when touched and has a blinking light onit that changes color when touched and mounted on the wall behind it inside are three sticks of what looks like dynomite to coincide with the sign

but most importantly i fish every nite till 5 am each and every nighti am always located on a remote part of the lake i fish on and have usually very few houses around me

the c/o loves me and has verified that since i have started doing this there have been NO breaking in the area that i fish and he has thanked me for being so ambishious about it

and he always gets a chuckle when he sees the sign

i do remove ALL valuebles that are not firmly anchored to the frame of the house in my area the kids are looking for alcohal and i dont drink but i think if you keep up a presense and a good repore with your ice neighbors it will minimize the break-ins and i also have two pad locks on the door but like was stated before if they want in they WILL get in i mean there has been houses that were driven into with vehicles to gain access so good luck if you ahve any questions about what i have posted please e-mail me nytelyter at hotmail dot com

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
