Anyone have kids that play or any kids on FM play highschool ball?

Where at, and howd you do in your first game? Also what position do you play?

I play at New Ulm Cathedral, we beat Renville County West 20-0 in our first game last friday, Buffalo Lake- Hector at home in 2 days. I start at D tackle, and work in on offense at tackle and center to give guys a break.

Good Luck this year

I don't have kids and the girlfriend's aren't old enough yet (just started 7th grade ball), but I ref high school football all over SW MN and NW IA all fall long. Its a great sport and I love staying connected to it. Get to see a lot of good teams going around the area each fall. We usually do a couple playoff games too and by that time of year there are some good teams really showing up.

I have a son that plays nose guard for White Bear Lake (6'2" 262). He is a junior this year but also started as a sophmore last year.

They won there 1st game last week against Woodbury 35-0. They play Forest Lake tonite. White Bear moved into the top 10 (#7) in AP 5A poll.

Sheephead i dont know if you remember the game, but in about 1989 i went too Waterville and watched them play Minneota. What a great thing too watch. Minneota beat us in the Class C championship in 1987. I didnt care for their coach, it was great too see Waterville thump them.

hey riverrat, glad to see your a fellow FM'er, I work the chain gang over here at the sleepy eye indians field, so I'll be nice to you, LOL!! you guys look to have pretty good team again this year. our conference is always tough, and good teams, makes it very hard to keep winning and go on to state. my son played as freshman when we won state in 2000, and you guys put the kabosch on our undefeated season in 2004 when he was a senior. i love reading the journal and keeping up with the local teams. I really miss watching him play on friday, it was always something to look forward to. so play your heart out cause after you graduate it's all over but the great memories. good luck to you.

Renny, that was one heck of a game wasn't it, rain, cold, snow, I was a freshman that year, freezing on the sidelines... You don't have to worry about me playing hard, I didn't lift weights for 9 months to not give everything on every play, I was to sore this morning to wake up and go goose hunting, but I'll take that trade off anyday, I have my whole life to goose hunt. No doubt in my mind that we play in the toughest conference in Class A in the state, it seems like any year there are 4 or 5 teams that play in section championship games, and almost every year a team makes the state tourny and does something there.

O btw renny you know already, but for everyone else, Cathedral won last night, 34-7, against Buffalo Lake Hector

I made it back to watch Coon Rapids' home opener on Friday against Blaine. My cousin (Grant Ellena #3) started at WR for CR and made it on the KARE 11 prep sports extra when he caught a pass in the 1st quarter just shy of the endzone. Coon Rapids ended up losing to Blaine, but it was still a good game. Always fun to see some of the same coaches that were there when I played, and the high school football atmosphere is tough to beat!

Good Fishin,

river rat- you better be ready for Le Center when you get to sections. they didn't lose anyone from last year and you guys played a good game. just beat #1 loyola last week. always good when someone beats loyola. i graduated in 04 from LC and we had a good team that year but i (starting QB) got hurt against SE St Marys in the first round. Might of gave you and Sleepy Eye a run for your money. good luck this year. enjoy this time because its gone before you know it.

Le Center is the team to beat, no doubt about it in the sections, although I must say the Lyola being ranked #1 was a joke, those rankings are completly off of the year before and how good that team was, at least for the first few weeks of the season, then some favorites start to stick out. Seeing Lyola lose is always a great thing though...

that must of been a bad yr for QB's- the same thing happen to us in 04, (S.Eye Indians) we played N.Ulm Cath. and our QB broke his ankle in 1st quarter. took the the wind out of our sails. his brother came in as sophmore qb and did a good job but we lost anyway. you are right about LC this yr they are going to be tough, we almost beat them last yr,(playoffs) and you could see they weren't losing anyone and are big. good luck. you probley know this already, but have you ever looked up minnestoa-scores.com keeps all teams in the state, fun to read.

After a game that we threw away to Mcloud West 2 weeks ago, we got back into the winning ways again last friday night, beating Wabasso 27-21 for a homecoming victory. Our starting offensive tackle got hurt in the 2nd quarter, this was a problem for 2 reasons, 1 Im the back up and had to play both ways, 2. he is my duck hunting partner, but he was good to go by sunday, my weekend couldn't have been any better. We should be 5-0 but 4-1 aint all that bad.

PLAYOFF TIME!

Reffed a very fun hard fought high school playoff game last night. A 17-14 shootout between 4&5 seeds in the section. What a great atmosphere!

You high school kids here better enjoy these days!!!

Yep, the Big 9 had its typical first round playoff run against the teams from the Lake. Only 1 Rochester school was able to get past the first round. Mayo gets beat by Rosemount, JM gets it handed to them by Farmington. Only Century made it through as they squeaked out an overtime victory against Lakeville North. They'll likely go down Saturday against Eastview. Seems to be like this every year.

We still have plenty of the smaller schools going here in SE Minnesota, but are still playing more regional teams. Hopefully a few of them will make some noise.

We (New Ulm Cathedral) lost to sleepy eye public last night. As I'm a senior its really hard to get over that I won't be back on the field ever again. It's amazing how fast it goes by. For all you younger guys enjoy the time that you got left.
