CrappieJohn
For somewhere in the neighborhood of twelve years I have worn my "trademark" green chartreuse stocking cap while ice fishing. Time has taken it's toll on this treasured piece of headwear and Ma told me it was really time to retire it....soooooo.The little missus has had a bent for this cap ever since I wore it proudly home one day so many years ago. Saying she hated it only provoked me to wear it that much more. And then the freinds I fished with began to show hatred for it, but I was undaunted by their loose lipped attacks. The washing machine last spring finally was it's undoing (quite literally undid it, too), so much so that it offers more air conditioning than heat. Since that dire day I have made it my mission to find a suitable replacement and today, said article was found! The new head gear is another of my favorite colors.....yellow chartreuse. As I sacheted down the aisle at FleetFarm this afternoon with my treasure in hand, I could hear Ma suck air when she caught a glimpse of it. Created a vaccuum is more the order. "You are not serious, right? How in the h3// can you even be seen in public with those d-#8ed ugly caps? If that #%7#2 thing costs more than ten bucks you are getting a swindling ( not her actual, and much harsher, words)." Well folks, it cost six clams. I'm as happy as a little pig dipped in do-do. Now my ice fishing ensemble is again complete! Ma's still sucking air as I type and I have been telling her that its all her fault for teaching my the merits of bargain hunting and power shopping during the off season. Ooops, gotta go open a window here. Later guys. I'm happy!
icehousebob
I'm also going to have to find a replacement. For the last few years, my favorite was a mad bomber cap in camo and rabbit fur that I bought at the ice fishing show. Well, last winter, I didn't hang it high enough and the duo from heck(AKA the wife's two bassetts) decided to hunt it down and kill it. Then they played tug of war with the carcass. The spousal equivelent was amused, I wasn't. We were finding pieces of it days later. My challenge is to find a warm cap that I like but the mutts of mayhem don't. 76k20
could be the beginning of "the ugly hat event". maybe that theme could get rolled into the backwater brawl this winter...
CrappieJohn
There's an idea Kyle. I wonder what we can nail to Matt's head? At that time of year there will have to be some sort of car-kill along the way.
Deitz Dittrich
I personally would like to see a tip up some how fastened to matts head.. mabye that lucky tip up that Dan s son and friend had last year at the backwater brawl?
CrappieJohn
His head is awfully round and it would be hard to balance a tip-up on it.
Matt Johnson
Nice guys. I'm away from the computer for a couple days and look what happens A new hat for Tom! I'm not going to recognize him now, but I guess from the sounds of it he hasn't made a big change... Good Fishin, Matt Johnson
Dan Thiem
Deitz, that is so cool that you remember him with that old Beaver Dam tip up catching those perch.I tried to get Tom to put his old hat up for a wager last year but he declined. All this talk about the Backwater Brawl is getting me really anxious for some ICE! juggs
A chartreuse stocking cap? Maybe they made it out of leftover jig material.
Corey Bechtold
Maybe you could buy one of those multi-colored Jamacan hats to cover up your dreads? E-mon, I'll see if I can find you a good deal on one. Later, Corey Bechtold
hanson
Can't wait to see it Tom! You might be getting dangerously close to Arctic Cat green, in which case, there may be some confusion with myself.
CrappieJohn
Yes guys, this new one is an eye-burner! While it isn't my "preferred" green chartreuse, it is close. So Chris....there will be no problem telling us apart. As for the tattered remnants of cap #1, they are stillin the closet with my winter-wear and I might be able to get another couple days wear out of it. Whenit looks as though it is going to the trash bin though I have every intention of keeping some "jig fixins" from it.
