Help Getting Started

Me And Lights went out fox hunting last night and he called for about a minute maybe if that. Then one came in and Mark shot it. Now I'm hooked and want to get into fox and coyote hunting. What do I need for gear. I dont have a highpower rifle the closest thing i have is a .22 LR. It would work for foxes but not coyote. Is there a cheap .223 out there that would be worth getting? Young Gun, there is a gun show this weekend at Graham Arena in Rochester. You might be able to find something there. I bought my son-in-law a Savage 22-250 at one of the shows for a reasonable price. It has a heavy barrel and a scope you can count the fleas with. I sure it's more then you would want to spend but sometimes you can find a deal.

Hey Young Gun how a doing? As for buget guns I would get a NEF handi rifle in .223 rem. They are single shots and they sell for about 170.00 The cool thing about them is you can get a different barrel in just about any cal. for 78 Bucks.

I know a few guys that have them and love them.

hey young gun go to www.walmart.com from there go to sports section, then to hunting section scroll down and there it says rifles you can look at the single shot section they have rifles for 80 bucks single shot in 12, 20 gauge also in 223 243 i believe if you want a combo it will go for like 180 but you can get things like 223, 20 gauge combo or 22, 20 gauge ands stuff like that 2 calibers in one gun. hope it helps

I like to set up with a shotgun and a varmint rifle most of the time...I have the shotgun across my lap for the ones that charge in hard and my .222 for the ones that hang-up a ways out. I set up my rifle with a bi-pod so it is right in front of me and ready to go! Get yourself a "good" set of calls...I prefer the E.J. Sceery calls... the three call set comes with a nice carry case and lanyards and is available in a variety of reeds to fit different areas of the country....the barrels are also interchangeable on some sets so you can get 3 different pitches from each reed just by changeing barrel length. You'll also want a set or two of camo to suit hunting conditions. Regular camo for fall, all white or snow camo for winter. A good waterproof drop cloth also comes in handy when setting up in the snow...I also like to use a cover scent of some sort...before freeze-up I like to set an open jar of skunk essence downwind. When there's snow on the ground I use fox urine for the most part. It's a blast...especially when you get one in your lap in the moonlight!

Be careful in picking a rifle. Form what I hear is that the fore-end grip on rifle like the New England Handi-Rifle puts torque on the barrel. Every time you take the fore-end off it may change your zero.

Does anybody have a NEF handi rifle. I like the looks of them and that you can get a new barrel in a different cal. for under 100 bucks.

Does anybody else have the same problem as muddog has heard?

My son has one in 22 Hornet. We have not had a bit of trouble with it.
