anchor rope

Guys, this is probably something we all go through, but what do you guys do with ropes after/before you drop anchor. What I'm talking about is you have 50ft of rope lying on your boat floor and stuff like that. I have made a 2x4 and cut a v on each end to reel up the rope after use, but is their anything better. Just sick of the rope ect. messing up the boat. Thanks, Joe

I use anchor winches for my mushroom anchors of the bow and stearn. For the digger anchor rope I use a plastic extension cord holder 89 cents at the local fleet farm.

I use a extension cord reel and just roll the anchor rope up on it after I pull up the anchor.

call me cheap! but. all i do is coil the rope up and place it over the center section/hub of my fluted anchor . it stays put in the storage unit of the boat.

This is going to sound weird to you, but it works excellent. Take the rope and shove it in a bag a foot or two at a time all the way up to the anchor. When you let it out it comes out of the bag without any knots or tangles. It works excellent every time and no knots or tangles ever. I learned this from a power linesman and have been using it for the last two years. You do not have to put it in the bag any speacial way, just shove it in and it come out tangle free.

Rock climbers use the same idea, without the bag. When one climber belays for another, they simply let the gathered rope collect in a loose pile. It feeds back out without tangling. I simply let the rope gather in a dedicated storage compartment in the front of my boat.

I have 100ft. of 1/2" braided nylon rope that neatly piles into a plastic milk crate as I retreive it and it comes out smooth when I deploy. The crate is also big enough to hold the 18# Richter anchor. This way, the whole thing can be taken out of the boat when I'm not going to "Anchor Up" or when we take my buddies rig, because his bag of bricks don't do the trick. Ha Ha. Works great! Greg

I keep 150" of 1/2" rope and a 20# navy anchor in a mop bucket in a storage compartment of my boat. Just feed the rope into the bucket and set the anchor on top. It's cheap and I'm still on the bucket I bought 11 years ago.

If you have a pedestal, get a metal crate, cut a hole in the bottom center of it to just fit your pedestal, get a small piece of carpeting, do the same thing, simply mount the pedestal thru the hole, and load with rope and anchor, will not slide around, and is out of your way as it sits under your seat, works for me.
