Fishing in the rain....

Daze Off

Recommended Posts

I do not have much experience fishing for bass while it is actively raining and have no clue how this might affect bass locations or even if it does. Does hard rain impact them differently than light rain? Do they move deeper, under docks/cover? Any tips on presentations? I haven't seen anything printed on this subject so thought I would ask in here. BTW, I fish mostly lakes.

Thanks for your assistance....

some of the best days of fishing i've ever had was during a light/slow rain! ( we were using buzzbaits for bass mainly, bu thave had good luck with panfish too.) a rain doesn't affect the fish much unless it is really pouring ( then it may for really shallow fish). what does happen is that with the cloud cover it allows the fish to move off of cover a little more. so you may find them relating to outside edges or on top of weeds instead of being buried in the weeds. but remember you will be dealing with a pressure system and if there is lighting and thunder( get off the water!!) that could rattle them . my $.02

When I was young and decided that I would not melt we fished in the rain often. My experence is that in the case of dock fishing they move off the docks and you may get your hits 10-15' away but still relating to the docks. Seems the strike zone opens up under the protection of the cloud and rain cover. A light drizzle is prefered to a down pour of course. A lot of times just that little different weather change triggers a bite. Don't know why as we get older getting a little wet becomes a big deal..Also there are a few lakes that I fish with stump fields in them and they turn on to topwater with a slight rain coming down..

I like fishing in the rain for 2 reasons:

1.It keeps the skiers off the lake and I can spend more time fishing and less time adjusting for the wake.

2.My wife doesn't fish in the rain so then I can fish and not "fix" her stuff.

Most important reason for me too! I get hammered by waterskiers and jet skis on local lakes if it is even close to sunny and warm.
