Feedback on 2 lines per angler

I would love to see two lines per angler in MN during the summer months. I fish alone alot, and it would be nice to use a couple different techniques at once or run cranks at different depths to see wich is working best. It would just be a time saver. I also think if the limits are the same, it would not hurt anything.

I do ALOT of catfishing where two rods would be great. One shallow, one deep, etc. North Dakota has the two rod law, and I love it. I believe they also allow 4 rods per angler through the ice. I don't think MN should do that, just keep it at two per angler year round.

I don't think it will ever happen, but if it does...Great!

I myself am neutral. For myself.. I couldn't handle more than one line at a time! For others- I can't imagine there would be any negative impact from 2 lines since limits are limits. smile.gif

I am neutral also but the one thing the DNR is counting on is that limits are not caught each time out. Using 2 lines would probably increase the overall catch rate and then the limits might need tinkering also. I sure there is a scientific study out there somewhere that addresses this issue. Overall though there are only a few times that I would use 2 lines open water.

We that fish the Mississippi between Wisc and Mn have been using 2 lines, summer & winter, for as long as I can remember. I don't always use 2 lines but the option is there.

There are times when 2 lines help in locating Walleye and other times when it doesn't. 2 lines are nice as it keeps you busy and more attentive. I wouldn't put money one way or the other if it helps catch a limit.

Biggerfish, No you don't have to have the other states fishing license within the U.S., just one for either state. atleast on the North Dakota/Minnesota border. You can even fish off The North Dakota Shoreline with a Minnesota License, just as long as your fishing a border water and not a tributary.

Go to page 55 of the Handbook. It states that the rules must be followed per the resident/non-resident license? The exception is for ice shelters, which now angers me even more that Minnesota is one of the only states that require permits for these. Not trying to argue but I would like to clearly understand what the rules are as I live 3 miles from the St. Croix and fish there often, but only used 1 line because thats how I read it?

For the MN/WI border waters, the rules are based on whichever state you are a resident of. For example, if you are a MN resident, you cannot fish with a WI non-resident license and fish by the WI regulations. You must purchase a MN license and fish by the MN regulations.

Someone correctly stated that you can fish three lines in WI. About the only time this is feasible is bobber fishing or trolling. You can't cast three lines at the same time, after all. 90% of the time, I fish one line. But when night fishing for walleyes, or fishing sparse crappie/perch schools, it is nice to be able to have three bobbers out. For the majority of fishermen, three lines don't catch more fish than one line in the long run. If the fish are snapping, you can't tend more than one bobber anyway :-)

Biggerfish, nope no Wisc license. You can fish Pepin with a MN license and use 2 lines. This has been available for many many years.

Page 63 of the regs states - 2 lines in using a single hook or one line if using multiple lures.
