Down to Earth
Quote: Comeback at the end of the season and then let us know what you think of your beloved butt packers!!!!! True it is a new season, but regardless of what happened in the playoffs or what has transpired in the off season the Packers are still defending NFC North Champs and until the season starts they should be the team to beat. If you actually read my post, I indicated that once the season gets going that could actually change, and probably will.Given that you are a pretty new user you probably don't know much about my posting. Yes I am a Packer fan, but I'm pretty much different than the rest of them on here so your little quotes like above really don't pertain to me and to be honest, doesn't get me all bent out of shape as it would others. You will not see me use the Super Bowl Trump card in discussions in which it isn't relavent, as this thread, and actually try and have solid discussions and debates on topics. I'm probably one of the few Packer fans who speaks out against it, as some of the more veteran posters/users know. I'm not stupid I know things are changing in Green Bay as well as the rest of the division. I've already gone on record in this forum that I expect the Packers to be an 8-8 team next year and that the Vikings will win the NFC North. So most likely what I think of them at the end of the season, won't be much different that what I think now. AND if the do worse than I thought I'll let you know or if they surprise me a bit I'll let you know as well.

MJR
Good article, My thought is although the new defensive players production all went down last year some not by much but still down, their production last year is still a considerable upgrade from what we were getting out of the people they replaced. But that is all on paper and in the past so you never know what will happen this year.THE PACK HAVE ONE THE DIVISHUNE THE LAST 3 YEARS BUT HAVN'T DONE MUCH PAST THAT. THE NORTH WAS PRETTY WEAK LAST YEAR TO SAY THE LEAST.DTE you going to the Vermilion Muskie school? I am heading up tonight through the 4th and plan on chasing some of them down between walleyes. Down to Earth
MJR, Good point and I agree, even though they declined they are still better than what they had. Also I don't think Reusse took into consideration that Harris was battling a knee injury during the early part of the year. Also Cowart had injury issues early in the year and by time he was coming back, their rookie stud LB Vilma was not going to be taken out of the lineup. I also think Sharper can bring leadership to the defense as well. Not going to be able to make to musky school AGAIN this year. I wasn't quite sure when it was going to be initially and scheduled out my summer triathlon schedule before hand and then it ended up falling on the same weekend and I had already had my registration fees in. Good luck to you on your trip. I spent last weekend over on Spider Lake near Hayward and couldn't get anything to hit except a 15" LGbass that hit my Undertaker. Had only a few lazy follows. I know your middle line is intended for someone else, but sandwiched in between the Falcons and Viking first round losses, they had a legitimate chance at beating the Eagles. Take away the 4th and 26 fiasco and they are moving on. I know coulda, shoulda, woulda........
mnvikingsfreak
PACKMAN......explain to me this why havent the packers done anything in the playoffs the last 3 years? Cooter
Nothing like a good old border brawl - is it getting hot on this thread? Anyway, got to lay one down for the Pack: What is the difference between the Viqueens and Cheerios? Cheerios were meant to be in a bowl
Cooter
Which reminds me of the concerns the NFL had when Iowa wanted to start up a team. They were worried that if Iowa had a professional football team then Minnesota would want one too
james_walleye
Packman you got me, ok, you got me on this one. I now realize that nothing that happened this offseason has mattered. It doesnt matter all the players the vikes picked up, it doesnt matter that the pack lost half their offensive line and did nothing too help their defense. I know it doesnt matter that the vikings knocked the packers around at Lambeau the last time they played. None of it matters because----the vikes lost 4 superbowls in the 70's. And the pack won the division last year, how could i be so foolish too think they wont win it this year, god im dumb. Let us not look at the big picture, let us think like 6th graders and say "hey the vikes lost 4 superbowls 30 seasons ago, thats why they wont win it this year". I'm sorry for trying too take in too account all the offseason aquisitions, and losses as in the packers although you have talked yourself into believing they have the same team as last year. Im sorry for using this knowledge when trying too form an opinion on how it might affect this season. Everyone my superbowl prediction for this upcoming season is COWBOYS OVER THE BILLS in the superbowl. My reasoning for this is because it happened so often in the 90's. Heck thats only been 10 years ago, 20 years closer too us than the vikings 4 superbowl losses, if that doesnt hold credence i dont know what does. Troy Aikman will be the MVP even though Deion Sanders picks off a Jim Kelly pass in the 4th quarter for the winning score. Alan Page and company won't getter done again this season. I cant believe this, the vikings season is over before it evens starts, before they even take too training camp. What the heck am i going too do this fall, i guess maybe my fantasy football team still has a chance too win the superbowl. OH GOD DANG IT!!! I've lost 3 of the last 4 superbowls in my fantasy football league!! Will it ever end??!! Man i might as well give up my spot in the league too, im giving up on football all together, and the rest of you vikings fans should follow my lead and not waste your time with this season. The thread is on the Vikes being the most improved team THIS YEAR. Super Bowls of years past has no issue here. You don't really look all that bright when your comeback for every conversation is well at least the Packers have won Super Bowls.
james_walleye
Amen down too earth. How can we take this guy at all serious? I mean this guys reasoning for why the vikes have no shot this year is because they lost 4 superbowls in the 70's? Can he even name 3 guys on the vikings team? I bet he cant name 1 guy the vikings picked up in free agency. I bet he couldnt name 2 guys his own packers lost in free agency! He also couldnt even get 2 posts in a row up with his caps locks off! Is there a real packer fan here that can present a real case for the packers here? It would be much more fun too discuss this season with someone who knew something about what was really going on. packman
i never said the reason they are going to tank it is because they lost 4 superbowls in the 70's im giving you examples of the history of the vikes, the reason you will fold is your coach. what did i say that makes you think i know nothing about football? i know it hurts that the pack are still on top of the vikes but wait the vikes will get thier chance, to fold. but untill then it why take it so personel remember it is only a sport. at least for me maybe not for some of you!!! james_walleye
I'm not so sure you can say the pack are still on top of the vikes, unless of course you want too forget the last time they played. Remember the playoffs at Lambeau? Lets also remember that Mike Sherman has certainly done nothing too distingish himself as a great general. Hes done nothing with good teams in his tenure. packman
i never said he was a great gm i know he has issues so your telling me that the vikes are on top even though they have not won the division in how many years, oh i forgot thats in the past. and what is going to be your excuse next year. if you want to talk football bring it on.of all the things i have posted what was wrong or what mis information did i give, let me know. im a big believer in constructive critism. oh by the way hollywod pet nice drawing!! Down to Earth
Quote: Is there a real packer fan here that can present a real case for the packers here? It would be much more fun too discuss this season with someone who knew something about what was really going on. I will take my best stab at that challenge. As I've said earlier I tend to think right now that the Packers are headed for a 8-8 season. A one game swing to either 9-7 or 7-9 wouldn't really surprise me. However with the way parity is, I do have some guarded optimism with the Pack this year and in a way it would not surprise me if they do once again repeat as NFC North Champs, though I really think it will be the Vikings on top with the Lions being the darkhorse contender. Here is why I like the Packers chances:1. They have a new defensive coordinator. Personnel wise they will be about the same on defense with the exception of the Sharper loss. I think will have an adequate replacement for him. I expect the defense to get better as it surely can't get much worse.2. I don't think the loss on the O-Line will hurt as much as some are expecting. If we would have loss Tauscher and Clifton then I'd be worrying, but given they were interior linemen I think we will be ok.3. I know you Viking fans always point out Favre's horrid playoff game, but I won't let that game take away that he still had a very good season. He's still one of the better QB's in the league and I think will have another good season.4. Will the Vikings improve? Yes they made improvements on defense, but regardless of what Tice & staff are saying, I think they are really going from a bad defense to an average-good defense. Reusse's article made some good points on the players they picked up via free agency. I also think the loss of Moss will affect them more on offense than people think. It would not surprise me if Wiggins leads the team in receptions this season. They also lack depth at RB. Bennett's health will be key to the Vikings this season. I'm not sold on Moore, but I do think Fiason may be the RB of the future for the Vikes.5. Mike Tice- I think he will be a good young coach, but still he probably still costs the Vikings a couple games last year. This is a make or break year in my opinion for Tice, as there should be no excuses as there was in years past. 6. As I said I think the Lions are the darkhorse. They have a good defense, but still have questions on offense like the O-Line and Harrington. If the line can block for Jones and protect for Harrington they will be good. Of course that is if Harrington actually shows he can play QB at the NFL level. It would not surprise me the least to see Garcia starting soon into the season. If Rogers stays healthy, if Harrington progress, and if the line gels and plays good, I say look out for the Lions, but those are a lot of ifs.7. I know the Bears are improving, but I think they are still a few years away. If Grossman plays QB, they've made improvements at the skill positions where I think they could win 6-7 games this season.
