My buddy and I had a field day today using hula grubs in new emerging weeds in 2-5 feet of water.......We stopped counting after 30 fish in about 3 hours.....many 3 lbers and biggest about 4lbs.......We tried senkos, tubes and shallow cranks , but, hula grubs were the ticket today.....1/8 ounce pegged worm weight and wide gap hook......blue pearl and root beers colors.

What kind of water clarity did you have? My guess would be rather clear with a brownish tint?

I fished yesterday and found some Bass shallow as well. Not a lot of big fish but the largest was about 2.5lbs. It came on a small leech while fishing Panfish. Bass are pretty much going through the post spawn blues and should be starting up pretty heavy soon. Water temps were mid 70's before the rain and then low 70's after.

Good Luck,

I'd have to second those Post Spawn blues Corey. Was out today on classic bass spots (pencil weeds, bullrushes, docks, shade, lake weeds-dunno what kind) and caught just a handful of small, small bass. It was frustrating because everything was thrown at those guys! Lake was 70 degrees at the surface.

Caught this one on the perch colored x-rap on Saturday evening. Fished it all different ways and caught fish. This one hit while doing the Jerk/pause method.

Fished Eagle Lake in Maple Grove last night. Picked up a few, but they were scattered and we caught them on all different things. Think they were still post-spawn. Water was 75 at the surface. I'll be hitting Games Lake this weekend.

Thanks Ralph for the info. I was out tonight hitting good bass country (docks, cabbage, pencil weeds) and nothin'! POST SPAWN BLUES STILL.

Riddle me this: Fished docks tonight wacky style and caught numerous bass in the 10-11" size (SMALL). Where would the bigger bass be hanging out then?!? The lake I was on was crystal clear and I did not see any bass on the break! Are they still holding on that 12-18ft break or weedline? Will they eventually come back to the shallows, docks, etc?

Good Luck Corey

I picked up one 15 incher jerking a floating rap over weeds in about 3-4 feet of water. There was really no defined weedline to speak of, yet. I'm hoping this warm weather will put them in their summer locations in a hurry.

I fished a small Wright County lake last night and struggled.

I was on the same lake Wed evening, and we had really good action. Mainly on scumfrogs up shallow.

So last night we put in a lot of time shallow, and we didnt get squat in the thin water.

The only 3 bass I got were out on the deep weedline adjacent to some pencil reeds where we had gotten some fish shallow on Wed night.

Conditions were nearly identical from Wed to Thursday, and yet the fish were in no where near the same location/mood.

Was out on Maple Lake mid-afternoon/evening and caught several smaller bass under docks using senko's. Tried the deeper weedlines with a texas rig and spinnerbaits--nothing.

Either I'm doing something wrong or the fish just weren't responding crazy.gif

"Timing" seems to be key for finding the Bass and getting them to bite for me lately. Tonight I had some success while using really small 2" plastics. It seems that the fish have a lot of food to eat right now with the baitfish booms and insect hatches so giving them a small snack before bed has helped me get bit by these Bass.

Good Luck,

Did well on the Red Flash and White Pearl/Silktreuse Tail Exude RT Slug rigged with a plain 2/0 worm hook this past weekend during a tournament. The slow-fall along with the darting action of these plastics worked very well for weed edge bass. Letting them slow-fall into the deep pockets and watching them dissappear was awesome! What I liked the best about these baits were their versatility. They can be fished several different ways and for both aggressive and negative fish.

Good Fishin,

Matt Johnson

Yeah, that always gets my adrenaline pumping when I'm intently watching the plastic only to have it dissappear by a big white flash followed by a snap in the line. Only thing left to do is set the hook! smile.gif

I have been having great succes on tonka lately with a pig n jig around docks with weedlines on the outside of them. Don't have a boat so after i get off work i just fish on docks and get about 10 a night jigging. The bass are starting to move to the outside weedlines looking for a meal so i think for fishing in the day use a slower presentation and in the morning or at night use a faster one because fish get more active at those times.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
