White Otter Lake

Recommended Posts

Yeah I do!! I am still a rookie to that area. This winter was our second year going up to that area to fish for lakers. We usually stay at Browns for a few days. It is usually a really fun time but still haven't found any of those big lunker lakers that lurk in those waters.

I've gone to White Otter the last 2 years, the "leader" of the group has been going there 1 or 2 times a year for 30+ years (he has not missed going for 31 yrs.) We camp on an Island north of the "narrows" and south of the castle. It's hard to believe how neat those 1:00 A.M. moon rises are. One of our group claims he has never been to Canada and gone to bed the same day he's gotten up. If the times I've been there are typical of years I wasn't there, well I can't doubt him!! grin.gif

jltimm - The MNR does not open the lake until June 16. That is for res. & non res. Sartell Eye Guy - White Otter is the most beautiful lake I have ever been on. Combine that with the great walleye & lake trout fishing and you have a wonderful trip. We stay at Browns and use the truck poratge to get into the lake. Barry treats us right.

We stayed on Nora last year, and we have access to White Otter. But we go up before it opens so I never have fished it. Why doesn't it open until then? Heard it was an awesome northern pike lake too? Anyway, WhiteOtterGuy, have you fished Nora or any of the other surrounding lakes? I would like to ask you a few things if you have. Thanks, Andy.

Nora is a good lake. It does not compare to White Otter though. The size of the walleyes & lake trout are bigger on the average. Do you stay with Berglunds? E-mail me about a spot close to the portage. Have you seen the castle yet?

White Otter Guy- My group has been going up there for the past 2 years on ice fishing trips. Stay at Brown's Clearwater Lodge on Clearwater Lake.

We definately hit White Otter and do fairly well.

Though it is a haul up there on sleds from Browns to the south parts of White Otter where we fish. Normally a bit chilly that time of year too.

We mainly fish Lake trout and average 4-6 pound fish! Never hit it for walleyes though.

I'd be interested in knowing a little more...by no means am I an expert.

Walleyes are a little tough to find in the winter. We get up a couple of times in the winter. We fish lake trout for the most part. We have found walleyes in lost bay & Mcquat bay on the north end. The walleyes are deep in the winter. We have caught some real nice ones while we are fishing trout. There some monster trout in White Otter & Clearwater. The largest trout anyone in our group has caught is 26 pounds. It normally takes a 28'' - 30'' walleye to take the money at the end of the trip.
