Question
almostthere!
Lost an eyelet from one of the guides on my St. Croix Avid rod last fall while fighting a king salmon. Checked the other eyelets and noticed that two other eyelets are very loose. Finally sent it in for repair last week thinking I should use the lifetime warranty.
Today, I received a letter from St. Croix Rod stating that loose/missing eyelets are not covered by the warranty because they are not material defects. Well, none of my other "cheap" rods have ever had any loose/missing eyelets. This is not something one would expect from a $165 fishing rod.
St. Croix Rod wants $15 for the repair within 30 days or else they "will dispose of your old rod." Wow, talk about standing behind one's product. This is going to set me back $45 ($6 for shipping tubes, $16.50 for shipping cost, $10 for return shipping, $15 for three guides replaced). Had I known that, I would have spent that $45 on another "cheap" rod which will not have loose eyelets.
The next time I spend $100+ on a rod, it will not be a St. Croix. One customer lost.
