Finding out the year of an outboard

Hello All!

I am wondering if it is possible to find out the year of a boat and the year of an outboard by looking at the serial # or the model #?

I have looked all around, but i can't seem to find the year anywhere.

Fishinglund, Get the serial numbers off the outboard and ask a dealer what year you have. As far as boats the year should be on the registration.

What kind of boat and motor.

Well if it's a Merc outboard you could try, oldmercs dot com.

You can also take the model number and do a little searching on the NADA HSOforum, they change the Model lettering every year, just start where you think it is and check every year around it.

If the boat isn't registered there should be a hull# somewhere. They can be hard to find on some older boats, maybe covered up with scum or paint. But it's there.

It's tough on some models, which motor is it ? I might be able to help.

Boat is easy, they are the last 2 digits of the hull id number (eg. LUN12R345690 it's a 1990 ) and they started doing this since early '70s
