Guided bear hunt

Recommended Posts

Make sure you put in for your license if you want to hunt in a quota area. My experience has been that the good guides don't book anyone until after the drawing, but then fill up FAST. And they encourage you to hunt the first weekend or week, before they run out of bait and before the grouse hunters get in the woods.

I have used Kelly P. up in Washksih MN. He is well known in the area and can be found through the Upper Red Lake forum on this web site. He has put me on bear every time. Great guy too!!!

If a person doesnt have the time to do the baiting a guide is great. The first 2 years I bear hunted I used the services of a guide. After that I started doing my own baiting and it makes the hunt alot more satisfing. Its great to go and check your baits and see which ones have been hit and sometimes how far the logs have been thrown. The only problem with doing your own baiting is that it takes alot of time, and can get pretty exspensive for all the gas you can burn up.I always try to make a bait run and then add a little fishing for the day or two at a different lake, makes the long trip a little more fun.Good Luck, its a great rush to hunt them bears. Also,do the research for a good guide as you are doing as there are some out there that run alot of baits only a small amount are active, and then they take a ton of hunters.A good guide will probably charge you more but will give you a great hunt even if they cant guarentee you one. Some advertise a high kill rate, but i would question that. Also you can check with the DNR to make sure they have a baiting and guiding license, the good ones will.
