Fishing Gear Donations

Recommended Posts

I've accumulated some summer rods and reals that I don't use anymore since I keep updating to newer and better equipment. The equipment is still very nice and work fine, are there any places that these items can be donated to for some youngsters or anybody else that could get use out of them?

Not sure but you'd think orgs such as Big Bros & Sisters could put them to good use - or a kid's camp on a lake? I've got a nephew (5yrs) that lives by the airport in MN that would love a rod and reel.

Hi Fastlane...

I'm in the process of working out the details of a group donation from Fishing Minnesota. We have not chosen an organization yet, but details will be forth coming. In the mean time... Drop me an email...

Thanks...

I believe that Ron Shara has a program where they take in used rods and reals and give them to kids. I am not sure where the drop offs are, but I thought I heard Gander Mountain at one time.

If I had my choice I would donate to the Seniors fishing group that was started in Willmar, I'm not sure of the name but I witnesed them in action last year and was thrilled to see people that are usually unable to fish on a regular basis get the oppurtunity.

You can donate all your St. Croix Avid rods and Shimano reels to me. I'll be happy to take them off your hands. smile.gif

Seriously, I'm sure I could find a thing or 2 to throw in the pot as well.

Iceseeker, I believe the group you are thinking of is "Let's Go Fishing". They started a few years back and have since grown tremendously. They take seniors from the area out on the lakes and put them on some fish. They would normally never have the opportunity to do such a thing. It is a great organization. They were featured on various news channels and Minnesota Bound before.

I am part of a church ministry team that does many kid and adult functions related to outdoor sports (hunt and fish)and we are always looking for donated gear/time that we could use to teach kids and adults about our passions of hunting and fishing as well as minister to other needs they may have.

Located in North metro area. If your interested contact me at luv2rapala(at)yahoo(dot)com (sorry spammers!)

Thanks Everyone, I'm glad there is need out there for people to use the equipment instead of the local Waste Management dumpster.

Moose-Hunter, I like the idea of a Fishing Minnesota group donation. I'll get all my things together in the next couple weeks (well in advance of opener). I'll be dropping you a line after I have it all and see if you've come up with anything. Otherwise, looks like there's plenty of contact info on this thread to donate to someplace.

THANKS EVERYONE smile.gif

The best charity I can think of is Camp Confidence Learning Center here in Brainerd/Baxter. It is a great camp on the shores of Sylvan Lake. They do wonders for kids with special needs. Each year they run a program called Fishing Has No Boundaries. Its a great program that gets those kids on the water. I take pride in helping out as much as possible. I'm sure they could use the extra gear at the camp. I've seen the kids out on their fishing pier on numerous occasions. They have a site on the web for contact info.

Bigfife, looks like your right, I checked the Minnesota Bound HSOforum and there's the "Ron Schara's Castaway for Kids" going on right now through May 16th. The drop off for items is at Gander Mt. Hmmm I guess that means I just have to make a trip to Gander!! Convenient and a great excuse to do a little shopping!!cool.gif
