Vikes; free agents, college draft, needs.

We still have 4 glaring needs on this team:

1) Safety

2) Linebacker

3) Kicker

4) Wide Receiver

Hopefully we can still pull off a deal for Washington WR Gardner. Maybe straight up for Bennett?

I say we'll end up with Donavin Darius but it won't be for a first rounder. 2nd rounder should take care of it. I think we'll draft a WR at #7, welcome aboard Mike Williams. We'll either draft linebacker or offensive lineman at #18.

We still need a kicker. I hope we don't go into next season with a smorgasborg of "has-been" kickers trying out, and weeding them down to the least worst one. This team doesn't seem to realize the benefit of a reliable kicker. Ask New England how important a kicker has been for them...

Why would the Redskins want Bennett, they have Portis.

I hate to see Micheal go, none better on a screen pass, which they NEVEr seem to use...

Doesn't look like we'll get MIke Williams at a #7 pick. Since the combine his stock has risen resulting from his excellent showing. ESPN predicts him a #5. Anything can happen between now and then, but looks like we'll have to do some dealin if the Vikes want him. Otherwise the next reciever is Roddy White. They might just use the #7 to graab that linebacker from Texas, the best entering the draft.

  • we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators

I'd rather have Williamson-So. CA(WR) then Williams-USC (WR) anyway. A lot of good receivers in this draft. Unless we get Braylon Edwards we may want to go defense with #7, depending on the 1st 6 picks. Derrick Johnson-TX(LB) should be available at the #7 pick or Dan Cody-OK (DE).

The Vikes are set-up to confuse most teams on what they will do in the draft. They're in a good position to either fill need or take the best player available.

Vikings: Tice acknowledges receiver need

THE NEWS

Vikings' head coach Mike Tice admitted Wednesday that he would like to add another wide receiver before the season. "We know we need to add some players at that position from the outside, whether it's from the draft or wherever," Tice told the Star Tribune. "We do have some guys that we foresee having big roles. Obviously, you know our roster and you know what we're missing. We'll certainly be studying that position very hard." Nate Burleson and Marcus Robinson are currently listed as the starting wideouts on the depth chart.

OUR VIEW

Tice is hoping that Braylon Edwards (Michigan) or Mike Williams (USC) will still be available when the Vikings go on the clock with the No. 7 overall pick. The Purple also hold the No. 18 overall pick, so we're not ruling out the possibility of the team trading up to guarantee themselves one of the two standout receivers.

Here is some rumor mill news I came across today.

SHARPER FAMILY REUNION IN MINNY?

Agent Tony Agnone tells us that rumors of linebacker Jamie Sharper heading to the Vikings are premature, and that Sharper presently is negotiating primarily with the Seahawks and Bengals.

But when we asked Agnone whether the Vikings might be on the horizon for Sharper, Agnone said that they "very well could be."

Sharper's brother, Darren, signed a four-year deal last month with the Vikings after being released by the Packers. Earlier on Tuesday, we reported that an unidentified ESPN.com message board poster with a track record of having inside information regarding the Vikings had dropped hints about a family reunion in the Twin Cities.

If something happens in this regard, it would be the third time in the past seven years that the Vikings have had brothers on the roster. In 1998, the Vikes signed Eric Moss not long after drafting brother Randy. And in 2001, defensive back Dale Carter joined half-brother Jake Reed for a cup of coffee in Minny.

As always, stay tuned.
