Anyone have info on the soon to be released Lowrance lake maps?

Kylersk

Question

I spoke with a guy at lowrance today, and all he could tell me was they are planning on releasing 2 products this spring. One that will be zoned out into 4 zones (north, south, west east). And another, using lakemaster, that will cover minnesota and wisconsin. He didnt have any details regarding contours (1',3', 5', or whatever).....

Also, Navionics appears to have recalled all of their premium maps from Gandermountain.

Guess I'll have to wait a while to get a lake map for my I-finder.

Kylersk. I have been in contact with them regarding the new chips. I picked up the Lowrance/Lakemaster LOW chip at the ice fishing show before it was released to the public and it is sweet. The others are scheduled for release in March from what i have gathered. One is a all Minnesota or Wisconsin chip and the other is a region chip. I am also waiting to see what will be on them otherwise it's the new Navionics Premium that just rolled out. Navionics has added to their premium chip from last lear and it looks like a dandy.

When comparing Navionics and Lakemaster mapping chips keep in mind (at least the chips now out in the marketplace) that the Lakemaster chips allow one to zoom down to .02 of a mile (approximately 105 feet) while the Navionics chips allow one to zoom down to 1/8 to 1/11 of a nautical mile (approximately 500+ to 600+ feet). This could be important on lakes with steep dropoffs. I have both Lakemaster and Navionics chips for my Lowrance units, prefering the Lakemaster because of its higher zoom value.

Where did you hear this from? I just purchased my Navionics Premium Maps for my Ifinder H20 in November from Gander.

Mongro02,

The other day I called around to about 5 GanderMountains and no one had the premium. A couple of the stores said that Navionics took back any of the remaining copies they had on the shelf. Something about updating them or something. I dont know the whole story. I spoke with navionics and they didnt know of a 'recall' but said they may have pulled old versions back. I asked when can I expect to see the Navionics Premium, and their reply was "It's shipping".

I should clarify my last post a bit, and I hope I didn't cause any confusion. I believe Kylersk was asking specifically about the Navionics chip. The information I posted was about the new Lowrance chip, not the Navionics chip (there is a difference).

I'm guessing that Navionics pulled their Region 10 chips off the shelves because they are going to update them to the new North Region (PREM-N). After all, why would you pay $200 for the old Region 10 chip when you could pay the same amount for the entire North Region?

Cabelas in Owatona has the NEW Navionics cards that have the entire US broken down into 4 regions. This card is the latest updates for the coming year. You can upgrade you region 10 card through Navionics if you send in your GOOD region 10 card for a $99.50 credit toward your new Hotmaps Premium Gold- N. Cabelas will not exchange the cards.

These are two different chips. The lowrance chip comes in Minnesota and Wisconsin versions. The Navionics chip comes in regions. The northern region includes MN, WI, IA and MI. From what I can tell the MN Lowrance chip contains very similar lakes and types of maps (High-def, Pro-map, etc.) to what is on the Navionics chip (for MN lakes). I spent quite a bit of time talking with the Lakemaster boys at the walleye expo last weekend. The big differences are the zoom level (better on the Lakemaster/Lowrance chip), and the Navionics chip does not work on the X-15 or X-16. You can actually order the Lowrance chip now, but the first shipment from Lowrance won't be until early March.

The new Navionics card is a 256mb card the old card is a 65mb card. The new navionics card has over 3,000 lakes on it. Now this is the HotMaps Premium/SD card. Has 1', 3', and 5' contours. I have been using the card in a Lowrance H2O. At the tightest zoom level you will know when you are there. I think this product is a VERY GOOD value, and I don't think you would be disapointed with it's performance. The Navionics card has its own 1' contour lakes, LakeMaster 3' contour maps, and many more 5' contour lakes. Worth the wait if you don't want to drive to Owatana.

Actually there are 3 different chips.

1) The Navionics Premium; includes 3000 lakes covering MN, IA, WI, and MI. Data includes Lakemaster Promaps, Navionics HD, or Hotspots Hotmaps. Price $199.

2) Lowrance Fishing Hot Spots Elite: Covers the same states & nearly as many lakes as the Navionics Premium but doesn't inlcude the high resolution data. Price $99.

3) Lowrance LakeMaster. Covers 268 Minnesota lakes 268 Minnesota lakes of which fifty eight are high definition LAKEMASTER/PROMAP lakes. Price $99.

I bought a Navionics "Gold" version of their region 10 (MN/IA) map card last year. Part of the data was missing from some of the lakes. They were extremely good about fixing the problem with no charge to me. I will keep buying their stuff because of the way I was treated.

The X-15 only works with the classic style chip.... you can not run the gold or premium chip in this unit... if you are unsure about what chip works in what unit.. check the navionics HSOforum and they have a page that shows the compatible charts with each type of unit... The classic chips come in four regions now, and the best region to buy if you fish MN would be region N.... the X-15 also works with navionics classic chart chips for the great lakes... so if you fish mainly in a great lake or lakes, a chart chip instead of a hotmap chip might be better for your use...

Catfish John- Sorry to sound stupid, but I'm trying to figure this sutff out.

You mentioned in map option #2, the "Lowrance Fishing Hot Spots Elite" doesn't inlcude the high resolution data.

In map otion #3, the "Lowrance LakeMaster" you mentioned fifty eight are high definition .

Is there a difference between High definition and high resolution?

Sorry for the confusion, I should have been consistent with my lexicon. I meant the same things by the two terms in my post. I was referring to the depth differential between contour lines, i.e. 1' depths, 3' depths, or 5' depths and the accuracy.

Resolution can also refer to the quality of screen display in pixels.

Thanks Catfish. Again, sorry to ask stupid questions but I just want to be sure I know what I am getting into. After reading all the posting about these chips, I think I am going to buy the Lowrance/Lakemaster MN chip.

so the navionics has all the info that the #2 option (lakemaster) has plus the other info? Is zoom limited compared with the #2? The real important point is whether the navionics has the promaps with high definition depth.

carl,

The Navionics Premium has 51 MN lakes with Promaps data (3' contours) and multiple 100s of other MN lakes with DNR data. It also has many 100s of other lakes from WI, IA, and MI some of them also in 3' contours. If I recall correctly (IIRC) Zoom is to .5 miles. $199

The Lakemaster Lowrance has 58 Promaps lakes w/ 3' contours and 256 other lakes w/ DNR data. I believe the Lakemaster chip zooms to .2 miles. $99

iffwalleyes,

Each of the websites for the respective chips provide lists of the included lakes. IIRC the MN part of LOW is on the Navionics Premium but you probably want to verify that on the Navionics HSOforum.
