nitroant
I am about to build my own rod with a blank and parts from Wild River. I have done a little muskie fishing on Canada trips and always got by using borrowed tackle and extra rods from guys in the group since I never thought I would give up walleye fishing, but a couple of muskies later I feel the bug, so, what are your opinions of rod length. I have used 6'4" and 6'6" rods to date and have liked them very much. If there are any other custom rod builders out there that have built their own muskie rods feel free to give your suggestions for thing to and not to do. guideman
Longer rods are all the rage these days however I think it's important to use a rod that works best for you. I personally love the longer rods, I use several that are 8ft or better. Canadian muskie fishing is typically done with smaller baits than here in Minnesota. The long rods make casting and setting hooks on these heavy baits much easier. There is also the ease of figure eighting with a long rod, especially on deep follows. For me it all comes down to what works best for each angler not so much what everyone else thinks you should use. "Ace"
Giant_Jackpot
For me the best all around length would be 7 feet. I have a couple 7’ 6” and they are great but I don’t think I would like one any longer. The reason I say that is because I am only 5’ 7” tall and it seems like I would have the tip in the water too much but I have not tried one over 7’6” so you never know………….. cliffy
I agree with what has already been stated...the length of the rod should be whatever your comfortable with...Most of my rods are 7'6 to 8'0...I do have one 6'9 jerk bait rod...dont really care for it because its so short. Dano_the_jigasaurus
The rod needs to fit the fisherman, I am 6'4" and I can throw an 8' or 8'6" easy, but in the hands of a shorter individual they seem to have difficulty working baits on such a long rod. I think that physically a shorter person would be less efficient casting on a long rod, not sure, but i will try to figure that one out in physics, I would say get one that matches you . just my 2 cents
