0 Surface Tension
You may have sleep ap-nee-a(sorry I can't spell) Ask your doctor about it. What happens is you stop breathing during sleep. If diagnosed with sleep ap-nee-a you would wear a Darth Vader looking mask thats attached to a air pump which puts a positive pressure into the mask. My dad has this along with a Pro Staff here. 0 Gus
My dad has this as well. His isn't bad enough to require a breather yet. He did however get a "mouth guard" for lack of a technical term. It keeps his airway open and he breathes much better. He still snores every once in a while, but it is greatly reduced. Best thing to do if you can is to consult your doctor. 0 gspman
A couple solutions are the C-pap machine which is what was mentioned above I think. The other solution is surgery in which they remove and reshape part of the roof of your mouth. I know 2 people who have had this surgery and it has worked for them. 0 upnorth
My wife snored so bad she would wake herself up until the doc put her on allgra. Still snores a bit, but nowhere near as bad. I had to threaten to move the spare bedroom before she would go see the doc about it tho.But the sleep apnea thing is pretty real, I know a couple of folks who have went with the cpap and it helped them with more than just snoring. Slept way better, and they lost weight(not sure what the connection is there but..)and that was not with just one person. If you have a tendency to quit breathing for a couple of seconds or more when sleeping, I am sure your mate will let you know, you should head to some medical center that has a respitory care/sleep study lab. It may help a lot with you general overall well being.
0 cliffy
A pillow placed over the person's nose and mouth and held firmly for a few minutes always worked for me.
0 fishermn
First off, if you REALLY snore a lot, go in and talk to your doc about getting checked for sleep apnea. It is a condition that can be fatal (that was one of the contributing causes to Reggie White's death)!! If its not sleep apnea (or just a mild form of it) the breathe-right strips work great. I have been using them for about 6 months now (at my doctors suggestion), and I feel much more rested when I wake up, and my snoring is down by at least 75% according to the wifey Either way, if you snore a lot and dont feel very rested when you wake up in the morning, go get it checked out, once its taken care of you will feel a lot better! 0 waskawood
Go see a doctor. I snored terrible. When I was put under for an operation I quit breathing when I was coming out of the anesthesia. I am now on a c-pap and can't believe how much more rested I feel. I haven't fallen asleep and toppled of my 5 gallon ice bucket once this year. The good news is that you can get a cigarette plug adapter for it when you want to spend the night in the permanent fish house.
0 Borch
I used to sound like that. I really rattled the windows!Like others have stated, talk to your doctor and get in for a sleep study. Found out I had sleep apnea, I got the C-Pap machine and the snoring stopped and I was more rested at night. Not to mention that I was high risk for a heart attack with the lower blood oxygen from all the apnea episodes during sleep. It's not something to take lightly. 0 Powerstroke
Weight loss can be a pleasant side-effect of better sleep because your body is able to properly metabolize more when you are completely rested. If you sleep poorly then you never really rest at night and you're never really rested in the daytime. You will also eat more things that are aimed to keep you awake and caffeine and sugar are bad for you.
0 mr wizard
My wife started snoring and I mentioned this to my brother (dentist) and he said he could make a snore guard mouthpiece for her. That did it! No more snoring! Best $200 I spent that month.
