Ice-fishing fantasy items-- 2006

Some catalogue entries I'd like to see:

New for 2006!

Ultra sounder high-speed vehicle-mounted sonar

No more test holes! No more pouring water on the ice!

No more dangling transducers!

Mounted on a short boom that extends from your vehicle window, the VMS uses new technology to read through air, snow, ice, and water at speeds up to 15 mph. Data is presented to the driver in two formats, standard flasher bars and in a gps chart plot. This device enables an angler to drive or walk on the ice and survey large areas for concentrations of fish, and capture promising locations for investigation later. Furthermore, the sound waves are strong enough to reheat coffee or thaw a frozen beer.

Permanent Ice Shelter Cloaking Device

Using technology borrowed from the US Air Force and

the Romulans, we have developed a holographic image projection system that renders permanent ice shacks invisible. The device runs off of two C-cell batteries. From a distance, your ice house will disappear into the distance, preserving the secrets of your secret fishing locations and perhaps keeping you free of pesky law-enforcement inquiries and unwelcome visits from ex-wives and uncouth fishing buddies. From close range, the shack will be clearly visible to prevent collisions with careless snowmobilers or low-flying crows. The visibility horizon can be adjusted from 100 feet to as close as six inches.

Vexilar cable auto-retract

This handy device consists of a foot-pedal (made from recycled electric guitar fuzz-boxes popular among 80's metal bands) which quickly and carefully retracts your flasher transducer cable from your fishing hole when you have hooked a fish. Simply step on the pedal to engage the device, and the spring-loaded drum swiftly retracts the transducer cable, clearing the hole to allow you to land your fish. Step on the pedal a second time and the drum is free-spooled so you can replace the transducer to continue fishing.

New from Vexilar! FL-32 Multimodal air/water flasher

This sonar device locates and tracks fish in the usual manner but also reads through air and buiding materials so with the push of a button you can check on the success of other anglers up to one mile away. Accuracy varies according to distance, so the device can discern between species, number, and size within permanent or portable fishing shacks, coolers, or vehicles within one hundred yards; at a greater distance results are less specific. With a transducer change anglers can also determine the number, type, brand name, and temperature of beverages in possession of nearby anglers even in a blinding snowstorm.

that's all I have now...

if we had all of this $h!t there wouldnt be any fish in the lake. all these gadgets would take some of the fun out of fishing like finding your hot spots. there aint nothing like finding a honey hole on a lake you never fished before with just a map, an auger and an ordinary vex. you dont need any of that high tech stuff with all the stuff they have out there already. I think its fun having the challenge of finding the fish. just my thoughts though.

Hey no kidding next thing you'll want is a Aquaview with a retractor beam so you won't even need a rod $ tackle.

That sounds like a great idea! I'll take 2. A person wouldn't loose any lures and that idea could even possibly save on lead being in the water. People wouldn't be unstringing their reels and leaving the line in the lake. Fishing itself wouldn't be as much fun, but just think of the possibilities, catch and release - the fish wouldn't even be harmed. People who loose things in their ice hole can just beam it back up!

Lot's of great thoughts! grin.gif

a self-contained battery in a stud-tracked tow vehicle to pull this stupid sled....even thru 12" of new snow....that only weighs four pounds and is operated by visually actuated remote control. Kind of like my power-drive trolling motor. I look to where I want this to go, push a set button and then take my time getting to where it stops.

Ice9-

I love your " kind of thinking". A very good read!

Oh, by the way, they used to make something that could do all those things!! I believe it was called.......

The Porta-Perm 3000 tracked ice vehicle and fishing shak.

Features:

Hydraulic Lift: Raises and lowers by the push of a button,

Ice skimmer transducer: Transducer that skims over, and shoots thourhg ice as you are driving.

Auto Auger: When you reach your hot spots the PP3000 has augers that drill your holes with a push of a button.

Floats: Just in case...

Street Legal: Just drive it to the lake and right onto the ice.

Dennis,

Believe it or not... a company makes a house similar to what you've described, except for the transducer and auger (and I'm not sure about the street legal part)... do a google search for sno bear and click on the first link you come to...

It's an interesting idea.. not sure how good it'd be, but interesting none the less...

There was this thing at the Ice Show that looked like a jon boat with atv tires on it. It had a steering wheel and motor and hydraulics to lower it to the ice. The bottom had 4 holes in it for fishing and it had a pull over style canvas with tube supports that you would take down prior to running across the lake. It was not street legal, but it looked like a pretty dam good idea, not sure of the cost or even the name, but its on the "If I win the lottery list" right after the 1900 Pro V LE. grin.gif

how about a remote control submarine for an underwater camera. keep the cost down (under $500.) Put one of the sidefinder transducers on the front that locates fish by thier air bladders. locate fish with sonar make a positve ID with the camera drill a hole and be on fish. Maybe even make it look like a walleye and lead the fish back to your hole.

Or if thats too much money to put down a hole in the ice why not an under ice self propelled planer board so you can troll under the ice?

How about a laser that melts a track in the ice wide enough to troll from your vehicle? And then an ice maker that freezes the track back up after you pass by?

Trolling from the truck... that'd make life easier. cool.gif

One thing I'd like to see that's semi-realistic is a camera that can go from "day" vision to night vision with the flip of a switch. It'd make the underwater cameras a lot more useful! grin.gif
