Wow Eric you sure post a lot in a short period of time! I see from some of your other posts you like to give out lots of tips and pointers. I find your tips to be interesting and something worthwhile reading. Have you ever thought about writing for a magazine or anything? I think you would be good at it. Also, you talk about scouting a lot. I'm just curious but where do you scout and hunt when you live in the cities? Good luck next season. I'll try some of your tips and see how they work.

Articles relating experiences where and how YOU have harvested deer. That carries 10 times more weight than generic articles. There are lots of articles concerning the phases of the rut or hunt funnels, but combine that knowledge with your personal harvest experience and I'll read it every time.

Deer hunting subjects that don't get covered very much and that I'd like to see more info on is installing tree stands using tree steps and portable ladders, safty rope info, food plot info (beyond 'buy the expensive mixes from our advertisers), trail camera info.

I personally subscribe to both Bowhunter and Deer and Deer Hunting, the first relates more to hunting trips and the second to deer biology. I will read most articles on whitetail deer, some I just skim, my philosophy is that you're never too old to learn and by hearing the same thing over and over ('hunt funnels') it reinforces what you know.

Good luck!

Personally, I used to get all the hunting magazines but grew really bored with them. They were all saying the same things. Stay upwind, hunt funnels, clear paths, conceal your scent. I much rather prefer hunting stories. Many of them are hilarious and exciting, it is much better than "10 Killer Stand Locations" or "6 Proven Techniques to Bag a Trophy". If those techniques worked, I'd have one. After my 2nd year of subscribing the articles started to seem repititious. Anyway, I now subscribe only to outdoor life and Walleye Mag. I love the stories and stratagy people have used to bag big deer and land monster fish, I get more out of those types of stories. Maybe a magazine with just hunting and fishing stories from average people would be a great seller. Who knows, Look at the success of these forums.

I'm with you on this one 96trigger, although I do enjoy D & DH, especially the biology parts, as well as NAH, but the stories of individual hunts, especially where they shoot "regular" deer instead of just "monster bucks" are actually more enjoyable to me. I suppose it's more than a little ironic that I chose bigbucks as my handle, when I'm really not a trophy hunter. (Don't worry the guys on here who know me have pointed that out more that a "couple" of times.) I try to hold out most of the season for a bigger buck, especially since a doe is just about as much of a thrill for me anyway, but at some point I'll take what comes. Personally I'd rather get a deer, or two, or three, etc. than necessarily a huge buck.

Oh gotta pick on you a little too. I'm pretty sure the magazines say stay downwind instead of "upwind"...

I also agree that "real" stories are much more enjoyable to read rather than the "how-to" stuff. Have you ever read the MDHA mag.? If so, have you ever read the back page by Rod Dimich, it's called "Dailylight in the Swamp", that's the first thing I turn to when the new mag. comes in the mail. Besides, I grew up with his younger brother and I also know Rod, so it's fun listening to his stories because I know alot of the people he's talking about.
