yote hunters - do you use a chair, cushion?

Recommended Posts

My Crazy Creek Canoe chair is really only a cushion with back support. It attaches to a canoe seat. I took it out today and it worked okay. I did not call in anything. I think that I need to get out with someone that knows what they are doing and where to go. Anyway thanks for the help you guys!

Don't get discouraged,I started the sport about 10 years ago when there was plenty of fur to be found and since about 5 years ago it has gotten extremely tough especially to try and convince newcomers your not on a snipe hunt smile.gif.Guess you gotta go throught the bad years to appreciate the good.

I’m going to get some aerial views (using MapCard) of the area that I was hunting, so I can figure out were to set up. As I was sitting out there this weekend calling, the thought of “Am I doing this right?” kept going through my mind. But I will be out there again, for sure.

Pistolero, hang in there. It has not been a good year for most people. One day you'll look up and there will be a coyote looking at you. If you are like most people, you'll miss! But you will be hooked! Hang in there!

After you're done calling, make it a habit to walk downwind and watch for tracks. You will be amazed at how many animals actually responded but stayed out of sight.

When you're setting up, you want as much wide open ground downwind as you can get. Make the buggers reveal themselves if they want a sniff! I like to have as long a sightline downwind as possible.

Don't skyline yourself either. Try to use whatever cover is available to break up your outline, and stay as still as possible.

After over 20 years of calling, I'm still learning and figuring out new ways to foul up. Its part of the program, and most of the "tricks of the trade" can only be learned the hard way.

Edited to add:

And to your first question - after years of sitting on whatever I could find (and sometimes using a garbage bag to stay dry) I adopted one of those foam kneeling pads used for gardening. That, a pair of Steady Stix and I'm pretty much in business. I did get one of those turkey hunting chairs with a flip up backrest, but haven't tried it out yet.

Jackpine Rob,

This is getting to be a lot of fun, I just wish that I could get out and hunt yotes more often.

Something that I have noticed thought is that some hunters hunt upwind and others downwind, like yourself. I would think the downwind method would be best or am I just misinterpreting things when it comes to wind direction. confused.gif
