True, it was a movie, but it was an accurate portrayal. I always thought they overplayed it, but I lived in TN for 4 years and back home on a break realized, people do talk like they did in the movie. You don't realize it living here all the time, but if you go away for an extended time and return the truth will be revealed.

Here's a little story for ya. The wife and I were down in Mazatlan, Mexico about 11 years ago, we went on this little booze cruze. A bunch of college kids showed up and got on board, three fine looking ladies sat right in front of us. They started chatting away, my wife looks at me and said "If that ain't a northern MN accent, I don't know what is". Her relatives are from the Fosston area up north. So in my best localyokel imitation, I asked "Where are you girls from, Teef River Falls????" All three turned around with an astonished look on their face. Turns out one was from Thief, one was from Detroit Lakes, and the third was from Moorhead. And this was before Fargo came out.
