I also was very impressed, I drilled a hole with it at the medicine lake event and could not believe how easily it cut. It is definately on my list of must have for next winter. Adam

Had an interesting time this weekend with a couple nils master power augers.

We got one and saunter on to the minnow pond behind the store and the manager fires it up and cuts a hole through about a foot of ice a couple times and says wow that is nice... It was the first time he'd ever used it and he was really impressed,..... "great" says I and off I go. Next morning I take it fishin and cut three holes in about 20" of ice in 18 fow, it takes a while for her to warm up and turn the auger but she's definetly cutting sweet when it gets rollin and now I'm impressed.

Bob, thanks for the interest, I wanted this thing to work as advertised in the worst way. I loved the quality of the engine although it seemed to labor to get the auger to spin even before I sat it on the ice dispite a lengthy warm up, but once it got going on the first three holes I was tickled. Not to mention the weight issue which for me is one among many vaulable selling points.

I'm having trouble with dull blades. If you guys could help, I'd appreciate it.

A quick story,...about 2 years ago or so I read here about a portable shanty called an otter, once I took the time to drive there and see one I was sold,It took 3 units before I got one that was right, the first one I assembled had missing velcro inside to hold the poles in place, the second one I assembled was short on canvas and the bottom pole was a full 2 inches from touching the ground, finally the same store I bought the auger from's manager asked me if the floor model met my expectations, the answer was yes, so infact I ended up adding at that time about another 50-60 bucks in gas to get one correct unit.Regards

Hi Bob (Baydog),

the unit a lot of the guys are talking about is the one I let them use out on Medicine lake. They cut dozens of holes even had some teenagers cutting holes for the first time. A lot of guys tried it out and it was sweet.

Of course it sounds like I'm one of the lucky ones as my Tanaka Engine for my Nils Auger doesn't need much warm-up either although it even says in the manual to let it warm-up 2-3 minutes.

I did find that I put the choke on for the first pull and then take the choke off and it fires up on the third pull so far. I've been told by a dealer who sells hundreds of the units out east that it takes about a 60 hole break-in to get the engine running the best. He told me it was because it's a commercial grade engine with much tighter tolerance than the other auger engines out there. Makes sense to me.

Use the "Contact Us" link below this thread and I'll try to help you out.

Rick and Bob:

Any help would be appreciated, this may sound foolish but I'd still like to have one (perhaps more than before if thats possible) if it'll work right. Even if it means having to replace the blade every couple seasons I could deal with it.

I've already spent the money and it's water under the bridge.

The folks at the store are likely getting tired of seeing me walk in the door. They've bent over backwards as always to try and make me happy but even they can only take so much, I don't want to look like a sniveling whiner, although it may be too late..

Thanks

Bob

Bob,

Nils Master stands behind their product and want to make sure that people are happy with their purchase.

Perhaps you should try ordering one through TackleCity.com. I know the units they have are all new.

Riverrat,

That is the auger with one extension. I put it together for the picture (we don't have a lot of ice this year). I can drill with it as it is in the picture. I guess I need to get some video this weekend. wink.gif

After a bad set of blades and a couple phone calls I have my Nils Master Auger figured out. (I hope) Now that I know what Im doing my auger is running good and fast. The thing I like the most is its light and effortless to drill with. No binding or scipping around. I fish a lot so it will get a work out. Next test is longevity. Ill reort back at the end of our season.

I ordered one from Tackle City hopefully I get a good one. Does Tackle City have replacement blades. Might not be a bad idea to get one right away. Also if anyone has replaced the stealth blades for a Jiffy they run $69.99 for the blades so $50 isn't too bad. Thanks, Ice

Update on the nils issue, just got off the phone with him, a nice gentleman by the way with a genuine concern for my problem. He's going to inspect the blades to see of signs of damage or evidence of grit induced dulling, he's also sending out a new set of heads to the store and with their blessing I'm gonna give it one more try. ( then I'm gonna have to give it up).

Not to put words in his mouth but his experience is it would take a lot of grit to dull these blades in 3-cuts through 20" of ice. The store where I purchased the unit was once again very accommodating and willing as always to put the customer first.

This is the one major reason why I drive the miles to trade there, I'd give them kudos by name if I thought it wouldn't violate some posting policy, truth is, everyone who hunts and fishes around the bay city linwood, saginaw and eastern shore of the lower all know who they are and thats good enough for me, thanks guys.

To those here who have done any work with nils in my behalf (phone calls, emails etc) my hats off to ya. I'll let you know of the outcome.

Thanks ya'll, good fishin

Baydog,

I grew up in Bay City so I am pretty sure I know the store that has been treating you so well. I moved from MI in 1991 so it is good to hear the things you are saying about a store that my grandpa and I used to go to. The last time I was in there I was in college on Christmas break but I would love to go back. I hope your auger problem is solved!!!

Baydog,

I'm glad you got a chance to talk with Nils. They will make sure that you get a good unit. I think you will be happy with it when you get a chance to use it more. Let me know if I can help.

Rick,

Baygog has been dealing with Franks Great Outdoors. It sounds like a good place to deal with. I'm guessing the owners must be good people.

Ya beat me to it Bob, yer right of course and I'm proud to say it....

Wonderful people who pride themselves on customer satisfaction and walk the talk...something I'm sad to say isn't common anymore. Now my wife'll tell ya I'm not that easy to make happy and I'm too picky, I say it's doable...Whether the Nils is up to the task or not I'll have what I've earned with the help of folk who actually give a rip. Now how ya gonna put a price on that? Thanks all....I'll keep you posted.

good fishin.

Bob

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
