Aqua Vu Scout

Recommended Posts

I'm waiting to buy an Aqua View scout from Capras. They are currently all sold out of them. Are they really that good of a deal for the buck? Also, why are some cameras set up to look down?

It will be my first camera that I am buying. What are some of the bells and whistles you get with the say 400 to 600 dollar whistle ones. Are they worth it?

P.S. I relise the camera won't work on LOTW (thus my name) I know that lake like the back of my hand

The Scout is a great unit for the money.. some thing syou will get with the more expensive units are.. directional ability.. either with a moter or just a compas on the camera.. it can also tell you what depth the camera is at.. better lighting systems... more cable.. all which are nice.. but for the money.. the scout is an awesome unit.

Downviewing is a great way to ice fish with an underwater camera. Its just like looking down a hole and sight fishing except you can see soo much better. And you dont really have to worry about what direction the camera is pointing.. you already know.. its pointing down!

Deitz,

Which is the better angle for fishing for crappies in the chisago lake area. I know you fish there often. What do you prefer and why? I will also occasionaly use it on mill lacs for walleye as well.

King- When using a camera for fishing.. I will often put the camera down in horizontle(normal) mode and take a look around. see what kind if any fish are down there, if I am over rocks, if there are any weeds around...that kind of thing. Once I start fishing, I will use downview mode.

Reason why---When trying to get fish to bite, you often will "work" a fish up. Which means if the fish won't hit your lure at one depth you raise your bait to a higher depth in hopes to pull it out of its confort zone so that it will hit. If fishing in horizontle mode you cant really do this without pulling the fish out of your view. If you are fishing in down view mode and your lure is 6 feet below the camera and you pull it up 3 feet.. you can still see it on the camera... Also in down view mode you dont have to worry about which direction the camera is pointing!

Thanks for the Help Deitz. One more quick question, can the scout switch from verticle to horizontel.

Deckhand

What kind of help do you need? Will you be using a portable or using Riverviews shacks?

King-Yes the Scout has the downview fin... Its hard to explain.. but you rig the cable to run threw the back fin to rig it in downview mode.. if you dont run the cable threw the fin you are in horizontle mode.. it takes only seconds to switch it from one to the other...

i accidentally left my battery charger at a hotel, does anyone know where i can find another one? I called Cabela's and they're sending me one for free, but it'll take like 10 days and I'm going to Mille Lacs in 7 days!

I bought the aquaveiw scout and it is a great unit for fishing during the day and in clear water. Night time and murky water fishing is a different story, but I heard that before I bought one ( I dont know if the other lighting system helps either). I think it is worth it. I has made fishing more fun when it has been slow. You also see why the crappies stop biting too.( A huge northern in our case)BUY THE TRIPOD WITH IT (14.99) IT HELPS.

I have had an Aqua-View for like three years and saw the downview mode at the ice show in an picture of Dave Genz, then it was the cable tie thru the holes where the fin goes. What a concept. I spent about the same then as a Scout cost now, of course today's camera is ten times better. As soon as my back pay comes thru it's off to Reed's to pick up the next generation. My Vex tell's me the depth if there be fish there and my Aqua-view tells me what they are and how the bottom looks, and they are just way cool too.

I will be up there presidents day wekend and could probably help you out. The people at riverview will treat you okay though. It's really not a matter of finding the fish. You just set up your shack with the rest of them and wait for the schools to swim through.

I just got back from fleet farm. They had one scout in stock, but the box was open. I had them make sure everything was in the box and the battery was missing and they were all out of batteries too. I asked what they would sell it for without the battery, the manager said $175 so I bought it thinking I could just go to gander and get another battery. Well the battery for the scout is smaller than the other aqua views and gander didn't have a battery that would fit. I went to sportsmans wharehouse and they didn't have anything either. Does anyone know where I can get a battery that will fit the scout? Or do I need to contact Aqua View?

Hey Skeets, are you sure they carry the battery for the scout? I thought that's what the guy at the counter said, so they probably do. You can buy them on-line through auqa view for $16.99 plus shipping. Maybe I'll just wait until fleet farm gets more, I can use the battery from the vex for now.
