mattkimk
I don/t think they put off enough btu's. i will take my Mr. heater anytime.
Dakota Iceman
Ed, I sold mine and regret doing so. They do only put out 3000 btu but it was durable, had a fan that operated on two D-cell batteries instead of 4, no pilot light to go out/one cylinder operation/ the fact that it was very lightweight was a big plus for me. I have a big buddy now and im heating a otter magnum lodge. The coleman worked good for me last year....took the edge off just fine...but wouldnt make you peel down to short sleeves. coleman was 69.00 the big buddy was 129.00 and I havent had the problems some are having with the BB but it looks like it will cost another 50.00 to get the quick connect for the BB to run off a 20lb tank...so im closing in on 200.00 for the BB and Im not at all confident that the BB isnt going to strand me based on the reports on this site. Like I said, I havent had the problems YET that Im hearing on here but there sure is alot of grumbling going on. One note: im running my big buddy off the 1# cylinders right now...so far so good. IMO...the coleman was much easier to pack and I never worried if it would operate. Has anyone tried to find a atv rack bag/system that the BB will fit into? The only thing measurment wise that I have found is the Otter Monster box but those are big bucks!!
Everclear
I have had a Coleman Power Cat for a couple of years. It works great and has been very dependable. The 4000 btu's are a little weak. If the Mr. Heater Buddy was available at the time I would have bought it, not much more money and alot more btu's.

Jim Hudson
Ed,I know a few people around my parts that like to run this type of unit in their tepee type shelters on Lake Superior because of their small nature. From what I hear, they put out just enough heat to keep the chill off in these shelters. I really wish they still made the FOCUS 5, those were nice units. ScottO
Ed -I have the Coleman Black Cat (without the fan) and really like it. As stated, the output is only 3000 BTU, so if you are looking to fish in a t-shirt, this is not the heater for you. It is very quiet, no CO or smell and lights easily. Very light and portable, takes up little room in the shack.I use it in a Fish Trap Pro and it gets warm enough for me, as long as I bank the shack. It keeps the holes open and allows me to wear a ball cap and take my gloves off. I usually leave my jacket on anyway as I fish in WI and have 2 tipups out that (hopefully) I am running out to anyway. I really like the zipper door on the Pro, as I don't lose nearly as much heat as I would if I had to flip up the shack. If Coleman made a heater like this with 4000 or 5000 BTU it would be about perfect.ScottO
colt44
JKH431 ........when we go thru Ashland/Superior on our way to Winni we see fishermen on Lake Superior. What's the scoop out there?
say_der
I like mine. I use it in conjunction with a buddy heater on super cold days when in my 2 man portable. I use just that when in my 1 man portable. I like how it's small enough to move where I want it. They are low on the BTU's but are quality units. I've had zero problems with mine in 3 years. I'm not exactly careful with my stuff either. It gets banged around in the sled, dropped on the ice, etc...
irvingdog
these are great in permanent tree stands, when you only want to warm the fingers every now and again.
