Tice coming back

Down to Earth

Recommended Posts

As long as the computer is fired up and runnin' hot: how about this theory?

Tice doesn't go for it on 4th and 5 against the Pack because if he doesn't make it he is crucified in the media for not playing "by the book". He knows, we know, everyone knows that Favre is going to march 'em down and score whether from 90 yards or 40 yards, but Tice is worried about his contract option, so he plays it "by the book" and punts it away, hoping to get to overtime. AND, the next week Red picks up the option so Tice isn't making game decisions based on whether or not he'll have a contract next year? Just a thought.

Northman, I agree. Tice needs some teaching.

Tice needs to instill the same type of mental toughness in the team that he had as a player. The question is,"How does he do that?" I don't know. Bud Grant would be an excellent teacher for him. That guys stare would melt Butkis himself.

I for one am glad they picked up the option on Tice. He definately needs some work but I've heard that having a cheap coach makes the team much more attractive to potential buyers. It won't cost them a ton to buy out his contract if the new owner wants to bring in a different coach. To me Red is the true downfall of this team, if he won't spend the money on a few free agents to fill voids in the defense while some of our offensive players are in their prime then it's a shame.

This may get jumped on, but I don't think that they ever should have gotten rid of Denny Green, he did a good job, but never had a defense to work with.

Ely,

I may be wrong, but after 9 years wasn't it Denny's responsibility to have a defense to work with? Defenses aren't given to coaches, they are built by them. Wasn't Denny making many of the pesonnel decisions? Yeah, it was time for him to go. Denny would have always had a winner but never would have had "the winner".

On that note Denny continued to use most of our best draft picks on offense even when we needed help on D so IMO he did it to himself. He did field a good team year in and year out so you have to give him some credit though. It's just tough to forgive the break downs against the Giants and Falcons.

Once again Mike Tice punts on 4th and 5 at midfield, down by 11 with 7 minutes left. He has no grasp of reality. Yet they back into the playoffs. Sure has been tough to be a Viking fan the last few years. confused.gif

Not a big vike fan, but still was disappointed in moss leaving the field before the game ended. I thought he had matured and was now the team leader? But I guess any team follows its leader so makes sense that the vikes are a bunch of quitters, (starting about three weeks ago).

Maybe it's time to also consider getting rid of randy? Not sure what his contract involves, but would think that they could get some good young defensive talent in return for him. I think they have some good receivers and he would bring them the biggest return; maybe throw in o. smith and really make a big trade. Those two in my opinion are two very non-classy persons that the organization could benefit from getting rid of.

greebs,

I am not sure about your plan but I share your feelings on those two players. I don't get these guys. They have got life beat. Fame, fortune, great job with early retirement and all they have to do is keep their mouth shut, noses clean and show respect. It doesn't seem like it would be that hard.
