McGurk
Has anyone used the "Rod Rocker" from Today's Tackle (same place you get the ice buster bobbers) and/or the Rock'n Reel side-by-side? Do they do the same thing, or am I missing something? Any info would be appreciated. Duffman
Same concept to some extent, but I think the Rock n' Reel would be more sensitive. Especially on upward bites. I have no experience with the Rod Rocker, but 3+ years using a Rock n' Reel. Take that for what it is.
we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Rick Posted December 15, 2004 we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Share Posted December 15, 2004 The Lazy Jigger uses the same concept and is just as sensitive as the Rock-n-Reel was. The Rod Rocker can be as sensitive. You can see tham at:http://todaystackle.com (Rod Rocker) orhttp://tacklecity.com (Lazy Jigger).
Bruce Mosher
McGurk, The Rod Rocker was mainly designed for Permanent Ice House walls (just position it so your rod tip is over a hole). It is even great for rod storage in the Ice House. I also found a place for it on the side of the plastic swivel seats on most all the portable Ice Houses! Your rod would then be positioned next to your thigh and the rod blank will extend straight out towards the hole. Just lightly screw it to whatever surface and it will pivot when you get a bite. They will sell in the stores from $3.00 to $3.50 each. Nothing worse than stepping on the rods or losing one down the hole! I've seen it happen a few times. Cheap insurance! iffwalleyes
Much similar. They are the exact same idea. I have all of them. I haven't used the lazy jigger or rod rocker yet since I just got them this past week. The only problem I see with the rod rocker is that you might have to build a shim of something to get it out away from the wall farther so that it will line up with the holes in the house. Otherwise these are great cheaper alternatives. I think the Rock'n Reel is a little heavier and probably more sturdy.
Bruce Mosher
One other thing is that the Rod Rocker will not tip over like some style rod holders. Each product has it's own features and has a place in this industry!Let's FISH!! Bruce Mosher
Matt Johnson
I spent some time with Bruce at the Ice Show a couple weekends back and he came up with a way to anchor the Rod Rocker to the side of plastic seat that goes inside your portable. Let me tell ya, this is going to be the cats meow!! I plan on anchoring some Rod Rocker's on mine this weekend. This technique is going to be deadly on walleyes, perch, crappies, catfish...the list goes on. The Rod Rocker (and rod) will be right by your side, up and off the ground, ready for "quick-draw" action! Once I get a chance I'll take some pictures and post them here to show you to get a better idea of what we're talking about. The best part about this is that you don't have anything on the ice in front of you. The Rod Rocker is attached to the side of the seat and you don't have to worry about tripping over anything. It also doubles as a rod holder, rigged and ready right by your side. Very good idea Bruce, I can't wait to use it this winter!! WallEYES
Rick....No offense but you should be ashamed of yourself after that comment on the Rock n Reel. You told me as well as others that the Rock n Reel is far superior than any others as far as sensitivity and durability. You and others found out yourself up in Nestor Falls fishing with them. I don't know about others in here, but I would like to get some opinions on how people feel about copying other peoples concepts for personal or financial gain. The individual that came up with this concept won't even post in here anymore because a lot of people kind of let him down when they committed to help produce and get the Rock n Reel going....You must have been a believer, you got in last years In fisherman ice guide. I have the outmost respect for you and what you have done with this site, but I don't really care for favoring sponsored products over others that are far superior....if mentioned, post deleted[Note from Rick: This statement is UNTRUE]. This is a site for fishing knowledge and "FUN", nor for personal and financial gain while hurting others.....just my thoughts. [Note from Rick: The Lazy Jigger IS just as sensitive and I'm certainly not ashamed to say that. The Lazy Jigger came out just this year AFTER I made the statement to you Dave. The Lazy Jigger and Rod Rocker use differant materials, cost less, and are readily available. Rock-n-Reel has never been a sponsor here and I made sure word got out here, in In-Fisherman and in the Ice Guide. They are a great unit and I stand by that statement. As for them being far superior that was then, new improved products come out. Heck, yours was an improvement over previos deadstick methods. You did copy a deadstick holder and improved it. If it's a nice improvements on the ice fishing scene I will let people know about it. I've also recently given out the e-mail address for folks to contact Tom about the Rock-n-Reel so they could get one for themselves when/if available. Your comments are based on your emotional involvement with the Rock-n-Reel and you should know as well as anyone that the Rock-n-Reel should expect competition in the market place anyway. We all told you to get patents on it and that others would copy it if you didn't. The Rock-n-Reel is certainly a good product, I carry it around with me all the time. Rock-n-Reel is also welcome to become a sponsor at anytime. If you feel the need to attack me again or come aboard as a site sponsor, please use the 'Contact Us" link below.]
McGurk
So, is the Rock n' Reel still available? I haven't seen much about it here lately and am seeing the other sponsored items getting obvious attention. The price seems right if they work as good, but I'd like to check out all options. From what I remember, the Rock n' Reel was the cat's meow!I wouldn't intentionally NOT support FM and all of the great info and guys here, but we have to remain objective, too. Thanks, McGurk

Guest
All I can say is that the only rod holder in my Stone Legacy Revolution ice bag is the Rock-N-Reel. Just the fact that you can set it up ANYWHERE and it collapses flat for storage is the best of its selling points. They all work on the same principal and like Bruce said, they all have their place. Catfish John
The Rock-N-Reel is also available from Shoremaster Fabrics. Excellent product. I haven't tried the others, but I don't see them performing as well as the Rock-NReel.
Gissert
I have two of the tub mount Rock n Reels, along with two stand up units. The stand up units have survived three winters of banging around my tub on Ottertail, terribly long jaunts on rough ice in the NW Angle and Sabaskong Bay of LOW. I dont think I can break them.In the off season, they make a dandy bananna hanger, LOL.

Northlander
Grapes too. Seriously though I love my Rock n reel tub mount and free standing. My rod rocker also is a great tool for when I dont need to hurry and grab the rod and set the hook. Both work well for seeing bites. Is 1 better than the other? Not for me cause I use them both a bit differently.
