fishyguy
Quote:And to be honest, i dont think the best coach in the world could do anything with that defense, i mean talk about a bunch of bumbleing (Contact US Regarding This Word).I agree with you about Mike Tice on a personal level, but I have to disagree with the quote above. You are correct, the greatest coach in the world couldn't make a defense out of this group, but a good coach wouldn't have a group like this year after year. A good coach would have improvement year after year, especially with the draft picks they have dedicated to the defense. He talks about their mistakes in coverage and alignment all the time. Either he can't teach or the Vikes can't draft somebody with a brain. My heart wants him to stay but my brain says he has got to go.
mnvikingsfreak
In the star tribune today Sid Hartman interviewed red mcombs and he says there is no reason tice wont be back next year he is cutting tice some slack because of all the injures moss, birk, roethensal, kleinsasser, winfield and etc... wade22
Let me get this straight. ONE field goal in the second halfs of the last two weeks? ZERO touchdowns? Hold this Ignorant Ogre accountable and get him out of Winter Park. Talk about a Shrek. Take his offensive coordinator with him. I don't care if Red's not going to pay any money for a coach, he's paying this hunchback waaaay too much. Even Les Steckle would have changed that pass play call. While I'm savaging the offense, let's not forget that our defense's leading tackler is a defensive back. Not a linebacker. Not even a weak safety. But a defensive back? Who's making the schemes up? Play some man to man already Teddy. Instead of the same schemes you've been using since 2001. Try to find a linebacker while you're at it. This Claiborne is hurt more often than Kliensasser and Dontarrious Thomas is out of place more often than Mark Chmura at a pool party. What a joke. Firing Mike Tice TODAY would be a day too late.
mnvikingsfreak
100% of the vikings losses and woes is the defense its pathetic and is close to being the worst in the NFL 28th I think, the secondary is a joke and the linebackers are too the only one that is good on defense is Kevin Williams all the rest are overrated stiffs that suck during the off season they better draft all defense and sign free agents in the defense did I mention their defense sucks? crappieflop1212
My favorite part of the loss to the seahawks was not just the fact that it was a bad idea for a play.(we all know what play Im talking about)But, that they were going for the endzone with 2 minutes left on the clock. Just like the loss to Green Bay. What did Tice say "anyone whos says we should have ran the clock down doesnt know football." Well, mikey I could understand going for the endzone with out any regard to the clock if this were the Ravens, a team with defense. But, what you dont understand is keeping the other team off the field is your best defense.
2dalake
Well how about some simple open field tackling? If I had a buck for everytime a Viking linebacker or d-back got faked out of his shorts for an extra 8 or 9 yards I could buy the team and fire him myself. Dirtyb25
I don't think they play itself was such a bad idea, it's worked well for us before, and it worked for the bus just the other day. Moss is 8 and 4 for 100 yards with 2 td's and one int over his career. You can hardly blame Tice for thinking Moss can make a pass if called on to do so, he's definitely done it before. I think the blame here should lie on Moss for throwing it.
fishinphilth
Defence is key to having a good team. It is hard to celebrate a towndown from the offence when you know there is a good chance that the other team is going to score. I think that is the feeling the Viks offence is getting after a score. They sit on the side lines and cross their fingers. I don't know if firing tice is the answer. Finding a defencive coordinator is key. Granted that the defence doesn't have the super stars, but they have talent. They just need someone to exploit that talent. How many have we had in the past 3 years. The search is still on. crappieflop1212
my point , the seattle game. 2:00 left your on the seattle 20. why calls a play to put in the endzone right away, to go up by 3(with PAT). Even if the Moss' pass was completed, Seattle would have easily tied the game if not won with 2:00 left on the clock and the vikes sorry defense. Comes down to this, 2 minute drill, You have a great offense and a sorry defense. which one do you want on the field in these last 2 minutes. 2dalake
Do you realize how much better this team would be, how much better their record would be, if they just had an AVERAGE defense!!?? Just sort of good? Just OK?
mnfish
Whoa, just caught htis thread. Here is my 2 cents. Our defense is subpar to say the least. Alot of this can be blamed on the players, but I also think for a defense to have success there has to be some sort of continuity. We have had a different defensive coordinator for the past three seasons. Get a scheme let the guys play it for more than one season and then evaluate. Sure we aren't doing alot of the little things on that side of the ball, but we should focus on the big picture first. This offense is not hte explosive beast that htey are often reffered to. Look at their point totals this year. I think that we have only had one real blow out game. Good offenses make up for the short comings of hte defense. Ours is not capible of doing that. I don't care who is/ was hurt. Look around the league there are plenty of teams that don't have Randy Moss/ Culpepper caliber players as the starter that have been replaced and the team is kicking you know what.As for Tice. If you look at the talent pool that is out there right now looking for head coaching jobs, the decision to keep him gets easier. It is only my opinion, but at least we know what to expect from Tice. With all of hte other changes that need to happen this off season to get this program turned around I think throwing a new head coach into the mix would be a mistake.I have followed the Vikes my entire life and from locations as far away as the six years I spent in Hawaii. I am not about to give up on them now, just had to let off some steam.
Dan Wood
I do like his personality (Tice). He is a no nonsense guy that I do respect for that. I'm not much for politics I do however agree that he is not head coach material. He just doesn't have the brains for it unfortunately. Clock management, poor decisions, team discipline, etc. I've seen enough. Red is a cheap skate though, so I expect he may try to re-sign him again just to save money. 2dalake
Tice is horrible with clock management but someone on defense needs to make a play now and then. That interception Chavous made was AWESOME, but how many has he dropped this year that hit him in the hands?I'm not giving up on them, and I support the team more than the average guy, sharing season tickets and buying the jerseys, but I miss the defense. I do disagree with one thing here, a good offense cannot make up for a porous defense, not always. Offenses can have bad games and without a defense to pick you up, you will post an L.
