DCON
I have a 2 hp 8" lazer and was thinking about replacing the shaft with a 9" 3 blade ultra. Anyone running these? lets hear what you have to say about them. I have had a 10" on my 2hp head and thought it really stunk so returned it for a 8". Lets hear it boys
Matt Breuer
The three blade lazer is a phenomenal machine, great for re-opening holes. Making new holes is like cutting butter!
opsirc
I double what Matt said. Bought one last year and love it.O
30 inch eyes
they work great until it gets to be 0 out then they like to freeze up. wait until fall 05 then they are coming out with a 2 blade 9". if you do buy the 3 blade and have freeze up problems, when you hit water, rev up the engine as you pull out the auger, then let the water spin off in the air it will help tremendously. I have had one for two years now and am working with strikemaster to get it replaced with the 2 blade 9". I prefer the 9" because I like to put my foot in the 10" and 8" just seems too small with a transducer in the hole.
viking_fan
Does the 9" work that good to reopen holes? My 2 blade 10" jumps all over the place.I have only tried once but when I was done I thought there must be a better way.How about the new 4 blade how is that? 18 inch Crappie
I also have a Ultra 3 blade, what I have done is wax the auger bit any red gets waxed, ice and water never stick and works great. I had the sticking problem before I tried this.
Beaver15
Hey fellas-Good info here, thread caught my eye. I've been trying to research this endlessly for about a month since I'm in the process of getting a new one. Will need it for our LOW trip just after Xmas. I know I've read all of the hundreds of posts on the differences and which one to get. I've narrowed it down to the 9" Ultra or the 9" Jiffy Lightning Stealth-both 2hp. Don't necessarily need a 10" and would like a little more room in the hole with the Vex. Strikemaster-faster, Jiffy-heavier... What else? Why shouldn't I get a SM? Any other positive or negative experiences for either would be appreciated. Thanks boys, good luck on the ice...
nunzio
Awesome auger as everyone has said. The only draw back to me has been the re-sharpening of the blades. Just a little expensive.... 30/ set and new ones at 50.
Ole #1
I don't have any problems with freezing on my jiffy. I went big with the 10 inch 3hp, the weight seems fine. The d'icer armour works good.
30 inch eyes
You won't have the as many problems with the jiffy because it is a chipper stlye blade vs a shaver style blade (finer ice chips will stick a little easier) I still prefer the sm over the jiffy, but the jiffy is a great product, just my preferance
