Building a Fish house

riverrat56

Question

Me and 2 of my buddys are building a fish house this year still, we have been thinking of using ply wood on the inside and out but i realize now that it will be way to heavy, the house will be 7' by 10' and on skids. Second idea is tin for the outside and paneling for the inside with insulation in between, we are thinking this option but im guessing we need a moisture barrier and i have no idea what to use. any help or other ideas?

thanks

Use some plastic or some tyvek (its the stuff they use to wrap homes in). The tyvek will work the best and you can put it on the outside of the house. I'm not sure were you can get this stuff in New Ulm though maybe Puhlmann Lumber or Design Home center. I know you can go to Kato and get it though.

The tin or steel siding on the outside will be plenty and will really sturdy the house up once its all on. Don't use any plywood at all its not necessary. Then on the inside you can put the insulation in and then put some paneling over that and it should be fine.

Last year we built a 10x16 on skids and w/out anything on the walls its really flimsy. But when we got one side of steel on it was amazing how much that helped and when it was done it was sturdy. We then put insulation in, the kind w/out the paper back and in the rolls, and then had to put plastic on that. Then on the inside we had some cedar siding that we left over from this summer so we put that on for our paneling. It smells good in there all the time too. grin.gif

local guide is correct. Either of the lumber yards in town have it, or you can go to kato. I just finished a 6.5x12 on wheels and I used both a house wrap (tyvec) on the outside against the studs. Before I put on the siding. I also used an interior vapor barrier. Any type of poly film will work. Just staple it to the inside of the studs before you put up your panaling.

I GOTTA get out more!!! All this talk about house construction right in my own backyard, and I haven't seen any of 'em. You're keepin' em hidden well! I'll keep looking. I hate the fact that work is interfering with my hobby!

RiverRat....It will all depend on your budget...... Tyvek about 100 bucks a roll so you might use 6 mil plastic instead! Just keep looking for bargins...I found enought steel to do an 8x12 for 80 bucks and that includes the roof!! In NU stop and ask @ Puhlmans/Design/Hilltop if they have stuff or overruns they want to get rid of... remember inventory Always cost so depending on the company some like to aleast get there cost out of stuff!!!

Good Luck !!!

I should have just built a house, instead, I bought a eskimo grand caravan flipover, wow this was not fun to assemble. anyone that buys one, its a two man job for sure. I spent two hours assembling this thing, mostly becuase of the hieght of this house, 7 feet. I am 5' 7, and all the weight this was using against me. but I did win after some fowl language. anyone out there thinking of buying a portable this size, make sure to get a case of beer, and call your friends over for a cold one.

I have built 5 houses and used rubber on the last 4. I like how you can cut it to the edge and put the corner trim on and that finishes the side and the roof all in one shoot. the rubber is good for 25 years, wish the rest of the house would last that long.
