waterwolff
Anyone see any disadvantages in runnig 2 30# tanks instead of 20# tanks on a retractable house
hanson
No.A little extra weight would be the only drawback. Guess you'd also have to have the 30 pounders filled, you couldn't just do the tank exchange like you could with the 20 pounders.
Tahoe2349
I agree with Hanson as the only "disadvantage" would be weight (and cost) if you even consider that as one.I myself carry double 40# on mine and prefer the supply on hand as oppossed to frequent refill hassles...I have two others I fill at the same time and rotate the empty out each time and refill when I get two... Jeremy airjer W
Kinda off the subject but please be carefull when doing a cylinder exchange. If you exchange all the time its no big deal but if you run into a pinch and only plan on exchanging once check the date stamp on the tank. I've been running into alot of guys lately that had to exchange thier tanks last year for whatever reason and they recieved an older tank thats do for a recertification. The date stamp is located on the collar and is a for digit stamp (example 09 98, which is September of 1998) all tanks are required to be recertified 12 years after manufacter and every five years after the recertification. These people always have the same face when we tell them the tank is expired and they exchanged there new tank for one thats 15 - 20 years old. Ears
I also have 2 #30 tanks on my house. I guess I was thinking it was a good size tank and a little let weight than the #40. I ran the heater at 70 for 3 days and 3 nights in -20 weather and only used one tank, didn't think that was to bad!
psegriz
Lots of people exchange thier tanks b4 recertify grabbing a newer tank in the process. I don't know what it costs for exchange but a tank refill costs $7 and to have the guts replace cost me $12 still cheaper than a new tank. Anyone refilled thier own? Jeremy airjer W
Thats my point Griz. Its usually cheaper to have the tank refilled (in the metro you can save from $2-$5). If you don't have a tank and go to a place that exchanges them your looking at $30-$50 for a full tank with no exchange. If you have a newer tank and you can't get it filled but have to exchange it check to make sure you are getting another newer tank instead of one thats been around for 15 to 20 years, most likely you will stay in the habit of refilling. Now you have a 20 year old tank (instead of that new one you bought last year at the farm), you show up at Svens bait and propane for some crappie minnows and a 20# refill, Sven grabs your tank struggles to read the date, tear weight, and water capacitie throught his tri-focals, He then looks up at you and says, "sorry young man your tank is expired" (I know i'm writing a novel but stay with me) Now your choices are drive 45 minutes east to exchange or purchase a new tank, drive 45 minutes west to exchange or purchase a new tank, or think to yourself how cold can it be and have a ice cold day of fishing bliss. Moral of the story, two minutes to check the date stamp can get you on the ice 1 1/2 hours sooner with heat!
Norsky
So where's the cheapest place in the metro area to refill? Most exchange places for 20# cylinders costs around $16.
Jeremy airjer W
Most places in the metro are still around $11. which is about the same as it was 10 years ago when I was working in Shoreview (I think it was $10.15 to be exact) If you can find it for under $12 your getting a good deal.If you can find it for under ten your gettin a smokin deal. It progessively gets cheaper as you start heading north or south. We had our 40# cylinders filled in texas for $15.
Tahoe2349
I agree with Norsker on the propane prices..Metro prices for refills are in the $15 -$17 range for a refill right now...Faribault, Owatonna, Northfield area is $13.50 - $15.00I usually have Dad take mine with him up to (Motley) area by Brainerd on his route to fill our 40# tanks for $21 each which was the last fill early spring..I have not seen or found anything close to $12 or under in the Metro for a couple years..If there is, please forward the locations.. Tahoe2349
Airjer:Where at ?? It's time to load up and I'm off Friday.. Can this place accommodate customers with (12) 40# tanks at once ?
snowgoose
Watch the adds in the Anoka and Sherburne paper. F+F on 101 just south of Hwy 10 always has coupons to fill 2-20# for around $18.00. That is a good one because it is on the way up North.
Jeremy airjer W
Filling them wouldn't be a problem. The only concern is you are limited to transporting 1000lbs of propane in an open vehicle (wieght of the tank and propane). I don't think I can advertise our business so if you want to email me at [email protected] and I'll let you know.
