Ryan_V
Has anyone used or seen the new rope lights for the fish trap style shelter. do they give sufficient light?? are the red LED's better for the money?? I like to have ample light when I'm fishing and I'm not sure they will give enough light. this is one of the items on my list to look at at the show next month!!! Were getting closer every day!! Hoffer
Id like to know too. I think you can use these on any portable house right? They just string along the frame. It is my understanding they work on the same kind of battery as the Vexilar - so it would be lightweight etc...I just wonder how much light they truly give off?? minnowhead
Have a friend that has these. He said they put up about as much light as his battery operated light. I told him I was going to come over some nite to take a look. I did see them in a package in a bait shop.. 15 dollars for 6 feet. Hook up to a small battery, (vexilar) says they will stay lighted for 3 hours. To me that is not very long considering that is all the battery is used for. When I get over to see them, I will post message again on my thought.
rod bender
There are two versions of the rope light. One is regular white light bulbs and the other is with red LED lights. Am I correct? Which are you referring to? Has anybody tried the LED red lights?
Ryan_V
Either one, I've heard the led's are better for night vision, but I'm just curious if anyone has used either and which one is better. I like alot of light when I fish, and I'm sceptical about these rope lights.
captainshane
I had a spare boat trailer light that i put in my trap. Attached it to the top bar using a u-bolt. They make a replacement bulb for the 1157 bulb that is a led. It is very bright and I can slide the red lense over for white light. runs off of my spare vex battery. WORKS GREAT! ice_junky
Doesn't anyone use a lantern anymore? Last year I picked up a coleman lantern its small puts off heat and is very bright. That just my two cents.
Hoffer
I have 2 coleman lanterns that I love to use for ice-fishing - one of them is the kind that screws onto the end of a 2 pound propane tank.I like it alot and it does give off decent heat. The only problem I have is that the mantles are so fragile with those - so you often bust the mantle on the way out fishing - carrying all of the gear etc..so I am just always on the lookout for a good light source. Heres a tip - I bought a battery operated "lantern" last year - it has 2 mini fluorescent looking bulbs in it and it runs on I think 8 D cell batteries - VERY NOT worth it - doesnt put out that much light and the batteries are costly. Ears
I second the floresent bulbs, they don't work well in the cold!
Jeremy airjer W
I think Big ick is on to something he is using LED light tubes and says they are more than enough light. check out his post "More ice house modifications" by Big Ick
