Finns
For eleven years we've been used Canadian Flyin Fishing out of Red Lake. Fished Mimi, Knox, Job and Roberts lakes. Good people but they don't own the airplanes so it was alot of hurry up and wait. Now we are using Greens out of Red Lake going to Birch Lake. They own a fleet of planes so not much waiting at all. Love that flying!
knoppers
Tombow, early in the season we catch them shallower, so we will use downriggers, and planer boards to cover more water, usually do best using spoons., silver, blue or green combos. keep your line size to a minimum, about 8 or 10 pound line will work best.good luck. TomBow
Knoppers--Thanks, bud! What planer boards do you use? I plan on having boards for when we go up, both for trout and pulling cranks for walleye. Have been looking seriously at the new DT (down-to) series Rapala Cranks. Fishing tackle stores are a bad place for me to be this time of year!! My wife has threatened to make me leave the cash-card and check book at home!! vern
Hey Eddy, looks like I'm going to miss you by a couple weeks. I just booked a cabin for the 16th & 17th. It would have been fun to meet up with you, but I'll be sure to give you a report when I get back. I hear the river is really low up there this spring, which sounds good to me. I just hope the weather is decent, because I only have Friday & Saturday to fish. Last year we were freezing, but the cats were biting! For this trip I have my older brother coming up who doesn't fish cats much, but I guaranteed him some sore arms & the biggest cats he's ever seen. I can't wait to see the look on his face when he gets that first monster piggy! Of course he's interested in those big Red River walleyes, but I told him it's mostly a fall run. Is it possible to find some decent walleyes in the spring near the dam? He'd like to do some jig fishing if it's worth the time. But I think he'll forget the walleyes anyway after that first monster cat! Vern
Guest
Shoot, well maybe next trip then Vern. I would be up there before that but I am busy with the Red River Creels study tell then and I also have bookings to run. Stu would be the best man to ask on what the likelihood of some walleye action in that time frame Vern. I suspect the sauger will be up at the dam in numbers, maybe a few greenbacks too? Eh.. Stu, what is you call for the Canadian opener? Any walleye action likely Stu? Canuck
Eddy, I am going to miss U too as I am off to British Columbia to visit the grandson from the 21st til Jun 4th, BUT I will be after those greenbacks this weekend. You are close enough to slip up for a weekend aren't U. I don't expect those greenbacks to stay in the river too long so maybe by the end of the month they may????? be gone out to the lake, sorry. We will see U later in June for those real bottom feeders ehhhhhhhh.Jim
Guest
Wish I could Jim, but I am working Creel Surveys for the NDG&F Dept. on the upper Red River. I also have a guide booking, work-work-work..Eh. Big "Cork'n Sucks" Bredeson says Howdy Jim. He is foaming at the mouth to get back up and into them Puddy Tata's. We will be there from the 27th-30th of May. Wish it was this weekend! Have a good trip and be sure to tip me off to the sturgeon when it's time to roll on them, we are in! Hemlock
RT,Are you coming up from the south to Dryberry? I'm assuming you will be coming up HWY 71. If this is the case, Nestor Falls or Sioux Narrows should be able to sell you one. I beleive the bait and tackle shop is open in Sioux Narrows on a Sunday. Does this help?------------------Hemlock"Throw'm back"

jegerjack
I fish the English river, north of kenora. My family has been going up there for close to 20 yrs we still are amazed by the new spots, that seem to produce, we find each year. It has good walleye action along with the other species that you seem to find in Canada. I would say that you could pick about a 100 different places in Canada and most of them, you would swear, are the best place to fish on earth. The only thing I would recommend is finding a place out of the way (less crowds) and one that has options (river, large chain of lakes).JegerJack------------------"What did the old man trade for these guys, a used puck bag?"
