Popular Post MUSKY18
Hey everyone. Been a while! Well after many years I finally pulled the trigger and did my first hunt out of state. Went to Illinois for a 5 day bow hunt with Eagle Lakes Outfitters. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Price was very reasonable, the lodge and sleeping areas were great and Ted and Dusty were awesome to work with. Arrived the day before we started hunting and they had our room (two of us went) all set for us. Food was amazing. There were 21 hunters in camp, which at first I thought was an awful lot, but with the land they have/lease it surely wasn’t. My guide let me know where I was going to be sitting, the lay of the land and where the deer would be coming from. Got to the stand the first morning and it was terrible weather wise. Rained from before Sunil til about 2 in the afternoon. I sat in my stand, which was about 200 yards off of a cut corn field, until about 9 when I was just tired of the rain and getting cold. Luckily, there was a box blind on the edge of the corn field so I got down and moved to that. Saw 2 small does about 11am and then nothing until about 3:30 in the afternoon. When all was said and done, I saw 28 deer that evening including one buck that was figured to go in the 160’s. He was running the edge of the field and got to about 70 yards before cutting into the woods following a doe. To say the least, I was pumped about getting back out the next day. Got into my stand the next morning well before sunup and waited. About 10 o’clock I got movement off to my left and looked through my binos to see a really nice 9 point coming up the draw. Quickly ranged the spot I figured he would be coming out and waited. He walked out right where I thought he would, drew and shot. I didn’t hold low enough as it was a downhill shot and the arrow spines him. His rear end dropped and he goes to flopping around trying to get away with only his front legs. Mad at myself for making a poor shot, I quickly grab another arrow to put him out of his misery and fire. Well, not paying close enough attention, when he went down and was flopping around, he went downhill and was no longer at 30 yards. I shoot him for 30 and the arrow goes into the dirt about 5 yards in front of him. Now I’m really mad at myself because this deer is suffering. Quickly range him again, now at 40 yards, nock my third arrow and connect perfect on the heart and dispatch him quick. Besides being upset with myself for poor shooting, WHAT A RUSH!!! My first buck with my bow! He wasn’t a monster by any means but I was beyond happy with him! Called my guide and he came and did the recovery and we loaded him up. My buddy didn’t shoot a deer but saw many shooters that just never came into range or were on the adjoining property. Out of the 21 hunters, 8 bucks were shot and a few missed. One hunter was playing cat and mouse with a buck somewhere around the 190” mark. Never did get him tho. Already planning my next trip which will be to Ohio in 2023. Can’t wait…… leech~~, rundrave, Wanderer and 4 others 6

Well…….I had a moment of distraction while plowing out the parking lot of the bar I own and managed to put a little mark on the fascia on the outdoor patio. Wish I could say I had a few brain Hernanes in me but I can’t. . I’m a lot more careful now! Guess I shoot bow better than I plow snow!
