If all pans out, weather wise that is, this will be the best ice fishing season EVER! Thanks to all of you guys who have passed on great imformation over the last few years. The best tip I have learned over the last few years is the importance to stay mobile. With all of the new technology out there, it has become a heck of a lot easier to do so!

Whats the best tip you have picked up from your fishing peers?

Just to not be afraid to try something different. For example, a few years ago, I wouldn't have given a Jigging Rap a second glance. Now, they are one of my go-to lures for perch and walleye.

We also all have our favorite fishing holes. I think a lot of us tend to "nest" in the same handful of places, over and over again. And if they produce, why not? But take some time to go new places...learn a new lake, or a new spot on one of your favorite lakes.

Just don't be afraid to get out of your comfort zone once in a while. You can only broaden your expertise as an ice fisherman if you do.

Try fishing some competitions, or join a league, like the UPL, etc..! you will learn a lot really fast by fishing these by fishing with the best anglers. They are usually willing to share much knowledge with those just getting into it.

I have to agree with Michael 200% on this. It's amazing the things you learn and how quickly you learn them when competing against some of the best. I dragged my feet forever because I thought I wasn't good enough or couldn't compete. I regret that now and wish I'd gotten into it much sooner.

I think the best thing I ever learned was paitence and perseverance for any fishing on the ice.

Gramps also taught me that reading the land around the lake is as important as reading a depth finder. It was fun to watch him study the new water by way of land then apply it to the water.

He didn't fish with a fancy fish finder casue he was a fish finder.

He always seemed to catch fish so I really wonder what he would been with a the nice electronics of today.

R.I.P.

Grandpa Joe and thanks for teaching me so much about the outdoors.

Never stop trying to learn new ways to catch fish. I also think that you should always be positive about the hole your fishing and convince yourself that a fish will bite your hook! I think this transfers to the fish one way or another, and in some weird way, I think it works! 2c
