Hawg
How do you keep those solid whole covers from freezing over the hole?

I actually have the opposite Problem of keeping the ice solid. After about two weeks of fishing the same spot, The front tip-up is floating on water. I now bank the back 3/4 of the house only To regulate the trapped air underneath. Edited December 11, 2018 by AlligatorDundee
Hawg
Where are you? Maybe just block the house up and don’t bank it at all. I’ve never heard of that problem before. Do you leave the heat on all the time when you leave?

AlligatorDundee
No foam. Especially when the crappies swim up your icehole and splash around under your shack

rl_sd
If you are spending that much time in one spot, spray foam is going to do you a world of good and will also make things comfy on the feet. I suspect it will also cut down on the wading pool as well!
Hawg
Hole liners would help too. Do you use them? I think some of that happens in all houses that sit a while with heat on. If a fan is forcing heat down from the ceiling into a marginally/uninsulated floor a ton of heat transfers. Just a guess.
AlligatorDundee
Foam may give me a couple extra days. I try to pull the shack ahead for fresh ice every two to three weeks. Alot of times I have to move due to a heavy snow fall or warm streak. As the weight displaces water caused from the sagging ice sheet underneath me. Nobody ever said living on A floating ice cube for two months straight was going to be easy or smart. Sounds pretty friggin awesome to me. Still, for the couple hundred that it costs spraying is definitely worth it
