Wow, did you find them in the PB?

Yes sir. Southern exposure. Mixed cover. They surprised us because normally the Trilliums are up and budding out. We had good snow cover and it really packed the litter this year. Very wet underneath.

Love the PB, see Avatar. ;)   Not sure If I'll make it up there before it's over this spring?

We picked 81 today. It was a bust at the first spot, the second was just a few babies and at the third we covered a lot of ground  because they were so spread out. I picked 1 that was in full sun and the edges were dry. Everything is southern exposure.

Went out for an hour before work today and found 3....So far it has been inconsistent but I haven't been out much  lately with the bad weather. Friend of mine has found them as far north as the upper peninsula of Michigan.

Great finds, NoTime.  I'm jealous!

My spots have been a bust so far, but the pheasant backs are *just* starting, and they are (usually) before the morels, so we might have more time.  That being said, I'm seeing reports of full-grown yellows in my area, so I think my spots might just be duds.  Ah well, morels are overrated anyways.  :)

I am staying out of the woods this weekend, don't want anyone seeing my truck parked and GPS'ing my spots!

Lol, good idea. :D   I did find 6 in my back yard today mowing!

Started off pretty rough today checking some "every-year" trees. In two hours we had 4 morels in the bag. Found two trees along a hillside that must have been just perfect, and managed several dozen from a small area there. And that was about it. Not sure if it's "early" yet or if the spots just aren't going to produce. Time to move to different ground later in the week.

I found 6 tonight in a spot that looks like it should be better. Past years I have picked more and it was either late or dry. Maybe they need a few more days. Fresh shot of rain tonight can't hurt!

Checked two of my spots today and still nothing. It's really dry and no ground cover is growing in them yet either. Not sure what's up this year when your finding them 140 miles north already?  :(

We picked 125 today out of 2 spots. The first got hit by someone else and was picked pretty clean. My other spot was spread out and we covered a lot of ground. Several were drying out already and at least 2 crumbled as soon as we touched them. I did notice that trillums were flowering around where we found the majority of the morels. In others areas the trillums were just starting to come up where we found few morels. Not sure if there is a correlation with ground temps or not.

Good to hear guys. I checked out some new public land today. Found the best looking area I've even seen....no mushrooms...and I didn't see any sign of other folks. Found one morel on a sad looking hillside. Did find a nice patch of ramps that I dug a few from; my first. I've seen them before but never picked. Had some tonight; delicious! Also found tons of PBs(I think) but I've never dabbled in those. Beautiful land though.

In many hours the last week or so, I've found *zero* morels.  Worst year for me yet in a long time.  I did put my first edibles in the bag tonight--some nice pheasants--but that is not what I'm looking for.  Not sure what's up, either.

Oh well, at least the best mushrooms of the year are still to come.  ;)

The frustrating thing about Morel's is the "Window"  You could be standing in the best Morel woods in the state and if your there in the wrong short week or so 'Window" of time. You would never know any grow there!  :(

    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
    • Sketti...  not out of a jar either!
    • Lol yeah I watched that
