Camera compass

anyone ever use one of these? My 6yr old daughter won a vs485c over the winter at a kids fishing derby. We only got out once with the camera and quickly realized with out a panner like my old cabelas camera it was a big PIA try to get it pointed in the right direction. Wondering if these are worth the $15 or if I should look at something else?

Yes they work OK. They are 11" dia. smaller than most wheel house holes so they rest on the ice. Once the cable unwinds after dropping camera in water, I used a piece of blue paint tape to mark the direction of camera.

There are a couple of remote units that allow you to rotate the camera with a small remote controller.

I love mine. Makes spinning it easier and holding it where you want it easier.

I made my own with a hunk of plywood and a close pin glued to it.

  The Camera Compass works and if you forget it at home and end up wrapping the cord around an ice scoop or something you'll realize how good it does work.

  I picked up the Marcum pod with remote and I like that even more.

These are simple and work well. Better then most the stuff out there.
