LindellProStaf
I saw they even mentioned that maybe one of those derailers will be needed on that thread to cool things down a bit. THATS US!!!!
leechlake
Yes LPS- my bat ears heard that call too. Usually we send one of us cooking guys around to just make an appearance to calm things down. As far as I've ever known no further action was needed but when needed the subversive posts can work like when a locked on F-16 deploys the "anti-missile" devices. We're basically the Israeli MP's. leechlake
my dads great friend Dick Lundgren, God rest his soul, from back in the later 70's. Same grill Reb but with the hood taken off. Dick and Lowell always said the turkey was done when the fifth was gone and that was if they were cooking alone. Only time I remember seeing my dad drink Gin was when they did the turkey. That grill had that nice auger feature where you could lower or raise the meat from the heat. Those grills must have cost $29 or less back then and I'm sure took a bottle of booze to put together too. RebelSS
Nice post, LL. I think all our parents had those when the "backyard BBQ" fever hit in the 60's...and the brick built fire/BBQ pits. I remember my Mom was dumping more lighter fluid on the grill, (which had been lit) and *FOOSH* up it went...and her too, her arms. I happened to be playing with the hose and was able to hose her down, or she woulda been crispy fried. Funny, we rarely used that grill. She did all the cooking inside, my Dad never grilled. I had to pick up that trait on my own. LindellProStaf
leechlake
that's no good Reb. You remind me that when I was a kid we had a grill outside that was like an appliance it was in a permanent spot in the ground with a permanent gas line. I'd assume that's where I learned and honed my leaving the grill skill from. That grill in the photo is from at the cabin and I wouldn't be surprised if it's still there in some capacity, maybe without the legs. As I've mentioned my dad wasn't a hoarder but was a hoarder of any grill he ever bought or saw at the landfill when some sucker had abandoned it prematurely in dad's mind. That may be one to salvage to hook my rotisserie up to, it's got all the slots in it. LindellProStaf

We had one of those sans the shroud and rotisserie. The grate may still be in existence. Used to love dunking the charcoal in water with the tongs afterwards then letting it dry on the concrete for future use. Worked pretty well until it rained if you didn't get it picked up first. leechlake
my dad always put sand below the charcoal. I don't know why unless it was to insulate the low grade metal the grill was made of. LindellProStaf
Dotch
We used to use crushed rock to line the bottom now you mention it. When the driveway didn't have much loose stuff on it we'd "borrow" a dab off the road.Dad said he paid for it anyway. RebelSS
LindellProStaf
Ya the one with the shroud was the fancy one. And a rotisserie was way fancy. RebelSS

Bobby Bass
Ball of twine..... reminds me of Burma Shave billboards on the way to the secret vacation lake. It was not really that far away and the old man would drive in a circles on the back roads just to make it look like we were traveling a long ways away. We figured it out when it only took an hour to get back home when the vacation was done... thinking back he may also have been lost.
