Making a cake

Recommended Posts

I don't bake much but tonight I'm making a cake.  I may even post a photo although it's just a rectangular cake.  When I had the mixer going a kid yelled into the kitchen, "MOMMMM!!!"  I yelled back and they said they thought mom was in the kitchen.  That's how much I bake and it was kind of demoralizing frankly.  Btw, kid didn't respond to what they wanted from mom, must be playing their cards right.

I also am making creme cheese frosting.  Pretty simple, so simple I had to goof around with it.  I added some allspice and cloves and I added one other thing but I forgot what it was.  Frankly, it tastes fantastic.  Not too sweet and the allspice is a winner, reminds me of potato sausage.  I may put a big W in blue on it once it's done.  I'm not too artistic so don't get your hopes up.

More importantly tri tip for dinner.  The were giving it away at Rainbow today with the Manager's Special $4 off.  As the hunting shows say "we'll see what happens" with the cake design project.

I also figured that the W could stand for Boar.  He can't spell so any old letter would do.  Us models have to stick together.  Now that I'm thinking I could do an Eddie Haskell move and put an RH on it and maybe he'd send me some product to taste test...hmmm.....or maybe a D for Dotch and lamb chops...  tough call.

No, you must have a poor color camera. And no, not sure what they are. Are they the animals that tell you "front" and "back", like on yer underwear? A bit testy tonite, aren't we Del? Especially after I worked so darned hard to find that info on trout hooks for ya.  No credit from anyone. This entire page is going down the tubes. Wont't even allow you to spell S i t e. Have yerself a tall cocktail and enjoy.

check out this cake I made with my daughter a few years ago.  No kidding.  We had a cake decorating contest and won.  It was in the Winter and the white powder is snow and the brown sugar is sand.  Her creativity helped us a ton.

The red stuff in fondant.  Really terrible tasting sugar stuff that they use to make cakes.

I have a good friend, still working at IBM writing patents after 48 year who is red green colorblind.  He used to joke about needing Garanimals.   There were a line of clothes at sears, kids stuff as I recall, that had different animals to help the kids get a matching outfit.   The lion on the label of the shirt went with the lion on the pants.

Heavens, they are still around...

About Garanimals

zebra.png

Garanimals was founded on a simple but unique concept: to help parents affordably dress their young children in comfortable clothing that is easy to mix and match. Each Garanimals line may be mixed and matched as separates, and the color and style mix and match with any piece within that line.

History of Garanimals

Garanimals was born in 1972 out of the idea that there is a positive connection between how children dress and how they feel about themselves.

The kid-friendly Garanimals mix-and-match separates makes clothes easy to pair and fun to wear. The Garanimals pairing system brings creativity and independence to young children as they select their own clothes and dress themselves. Through these small, successful decisions, children develop early feelings of self-confidence.

I can't help the poor color balance of my tablet....  Sorry for impugning your color matching ability.   (and aren't you the one who brought up barbless hooks in the first place?) But that's ok, I know you mean well.

I'm working on trying a new foolproof egg cooking and peeling method from Cook's Illustrated.  Got to get to store to buy a small piece of equipment...

I posted a recipe for the worlds best rhubarb cake in the past.  If you can't find it I would be happy to post again.  Really easy too.

browny points aren't handed out around here very frequently.  Seems similar to what my folks used to tell me about rationing during WW 2.  I think in her world half the men in America made a cake for their wife with a bad heart and arrow on it.  The other half bought them a car.

Cake was Betty and frosting was scratch.  Frosting was a little spicy.

In spite of the lack of demand, here is the recipe.  Try it, you won't be sorry.

Barb's Rhubarb Cake

 1 yellow cake mix -- 2-layer
4 cups chopped rhubarb
1 cup granulated sugar
1 pint whipping cream -- 2 cups

Cream, sugar, and rhubarb sink to bottom, forming a custard layer.
Makes  1 or more   (1 to 18)   (depending on how you cut it!!) dee-vine servings.

Preheat oven to 350

Prepare batter for cake mix according to package directions; turn into
greased and floured 9x13' pan.

Dump the chopped rhubarb on top of the cake batter.

Sprinkle the sugar on top of the rhubarb.

Pour the whipping cream (unwhipped) over the sugar.

Bake at 350° for 50-60 minutes, until
cake springs back when lightly touched.

(no I don't know why cake and rhubarb are highlighted)
