leechlake
I figured out how it's okay to buy fish. If you buy fish that aren't catchable in Minnesota you really aren't violating any man card rules. As a precaution I made sure it was one of Bobby's nap days since he seems to catch me every time I buy fish. It's amazing I've bought fish twice in my life but he's caught me almost ten times now. Kind of lame he posts it but he always just mentions he saw me with a package so in essence he isn't ratting me out. Kind of like Clinton's "it depends on what the word is is". Frankly, I always admired that bss line anyway. Today I bought Ocean Perch. No real clue what they are and Del no need to look it up. The look like a readily fryable fish to have tonight though. They say they are from Canada so sounded good to me. I bought three kinds of cake two, go Hornets!!! RebelSS, reinhard1 and Boar
Dotch
I bought some haddock sticks from the Schwan's man today. Haddock no longer run in Boot Creek during the spring season. bobberineyes, RebelSS and reinhard1
RebelSS
That sounds good. Maybe I should get some fish on my next outing. reinhard1
reinhard1
Never tried Ocean perch. After handling them for many years, I did want to try them but they seem to have the most odor of any fish I have ever handled, and they were fresh all the time. Let me know how they taste. I would try them if you give a favorable taste test. good luck. leechlake, bobberineyes and RebelSS
RebelSS
For what it's worth, those are one of the few I really don't care for.....to me, they have a "different" taste. Nothing like chicken. leechlake
leechlake
may go out to dinner or leave em on the counter for Belle to get into. Heck, we will see. bobberineyes
leechlake
nope. No good. They are too oily to fry in my opinion. My daughter said "they aren't fishy". They do have a funk and only have a mild fishy taste but I think I've said enough to not recommend them.

leechlake
these things easily qualify for the landfill. I'm making fish patties with package two. The kids like em which is making me think next Summer I'm keeping rock bass. There's always a positive to every situation. RebelSS

Somewhere safe, I hope. Gotta spray the woodwork around here, the nuts been been coming out of it all day. Dotch
leechlake
wife and I are heading to dinner. Hey Boar? Have three brandys on me and keep an eye on things when I'm gone. I know you're having more than three and that's fine but I'm only buying three. also I watched One Flew Over about a month ago. They seemed pretty normal to me but they fish like most of you guys. bobberineyes
Not to switch fishing methods but the Mrs did a little fishing herself at Costco. Ended up basketing a steelhead that wanted to do a final swim in a dry brine. lovebigbluegills, LindellProStaf and Dotch

LindellProStaf
When I lived on the Ottertail River I would troll Raps and catch some walleyes and northerns. When I would get to a certain area I would just nail the rock bass. They would really hit and would be pretty nice sized. Once I brought a friend and his girl friend and they wanted some fish for a meal. We kept about a dozen rockys and filleted them up for them. We also fried some up after we were done fishing. They were great. Just another fish. It was early in the summer and the water was still pretty cool, that probably made a difference too. About that time a new neighbor moved in next to me. He was from the area just new to the river there. He kept telling me how he was catching small mouth bass. Well cool I suppose there were some there. As time went on he kept saying how he can't believe how many smallmouths he was catching. He said he even started having fish frys with them. I asked if he knew what a rock bass looked like? He said of course these aren't rock bass I know what they look like. Well his relatives came over and they all went out and nailed a bunch of smallmouths and had another fish fry. I went over and said hi...... I had some of their great home made wine too? (good stuff) I didn't want to say anything and hurt anyones feelings but saw the smallmouths and yup they were rock bass. He said see they are smallmouths, see the red eyes on them. That is how you know they are smallies. I just said "ya nice ones" and left. Later one day I showed him some rock bass I caught and was going to fry up and he looked at them and didn't say much. I never did hear him talk about catching smallies again. AND he was a great guy, good neighbor too. ANd I was fully clothed when I caught them. leechlake
