leechlake
made burgers on the grill last night. Left the grill on again, only 23 hours this time. I think I may got get some charcoal and use my Weber for a while. What's odd is I'm making steaks in about an hour so I turned the grill off, don't want to waste gas. lovebigbluegills, bobberineyes, LindellProStaf and 1 other

"Grill on" and put it on the door where you go back in the house.... Or set a rock on the top of the grill when you take the stuff off of it and shut it off. Then you will notice it. Or a piece of cardboard... If the cardboard is black and crispy you forgot to turn it of.
bobberineyes
Maybe a timer on the gas line perhaps, or could start using 1# cylinders, wait a minute, ya I think your better off with the weber..

LindellProStaf
LOLOL I have done that too. A couple of gas grills back I had a brand new one that when I went to use it the second time I was out of propane. I thought what a cheap grill. (and it was a pretty good one) I found a loose fitting (I put it together) OOps. But I have left one on too and when I walked out on the deck the next morning I could still smell something cooking. Yup I did the LL thing and left it on. LL you may have to go electric with a George Foreman. My buddy used to love his. Looked goofy as heck. We are all at a campgrounds with our grills and campfire rings to cook on and he plugs in his new gizmo and starts cooking. We all laughed our butts off. BUT it did a great job. bobberineyes
leechlake
Ok, I'm resetting my grilling life and going to do better. The grill is on and I've got the Hasselback sliced potatoes in the oven with healthy amount of bacon grease on them. I'm turning this grill off when I'm done tonight. btw- when you chop up 3 pounds of bacon and fry it for RH's ABT sausage you end up eating 1/2 a pound of it so remember to start with more than you want to end up with. You also get a nice amount of grease to save for future cookings. It's a win/win/win/win deal. lovebigbluegills and LindellProStaf
lovebigbluegills
At least your grill is clean!!! How is the sausage progressing??
leechlake
I'm trying to not rush things like I usually do. I fried up the bacon and cut the cheese into tiny pieces. I will grind tomorrow and let "meld" for two days and then stuff on Saturday. Usually I rush things and screw it up along the way. Btw I did make ABT burgers the other day using ground beef, bacon, jalepenos and cheese. Very good. eyeguy 54
I always put the timer on the stove for 5 to 10 minutes after I grill something. that has saved me many tanks over the last 15 years... we have supper cleaned the grill a couple times.. grrrrrrr lol LindellProStaf

The charcoal Weber is not foolproof in all respects as I can attest. Christmas Eve while under the influence of caipirinhas, I narrowly averted certain scorn and derision by nearly attempting to put the chops on the grill without 1st putting the grate back in it. I thought it looked odd when I opened the lid with the first chop already in the tongs ready to go. Good thing I looked quick or it would've landed in the coals. Needed some quinine water and juniper berry extract upon my return to the kitchen to calm my frazzled nerves from what might've been a rookie mistake. lovebigbluegills
Lol that would have been a bummer to sacrifice a beautiful chop to the charcoal gods!!! Dotch and LindellProStaf
LindellProStaf
OR the common wait a minute too long and look out to see thick black smoke and flames shooting up with a beautiful steak in the middle screaming for help!!! That burns my you know what. Dotch and lovebigbluegills
RebelSS
I was thinking, and believe I might have a solution to LL's recent s lean toward grill pyromania. However, a learning curve will be involved.....here's what do, for the food, and indirectly It shuts off the grill. Normally the lid is always down, and when I have a minute or two to go, I shut the grill off. Ever notice how a grill will put out smoke right as it starts cooling? Yup. Gives the food a tad more flavor...and the grills off. Silly maybe, but I've always done that last "smoke-up" at the end...might work for LL, and even save his house... not to mention keeping us from thinking of him every time we see this album. My brother in IA made a major sacrifice one time along those lines. He decided it would be a cool idea to take on a wedding reception with a borrowed roaster unit. He bought 2 lambs from me, had them dressed whole, came up and got them after buying a couple monster-sized coolers at Cabela's to put them in. I could see the handwriting on the wall on this one as none of these guys had made a practice run to see how the unit would operate. They were flying by the seat of their pants. They stuck somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 bags of charcoal in the thing, put the lambs on the spit and let 'er buck. Bear in mind there was likely only about 100 lbs. worth of meat in there. About 2 hours and many alcoholic beverages later they decided to check on it. To their horror, both lambs had fallen off the spit and were burning up on the coals below. They managed to salvage only about 10 lbs of it., then made a mad dash to clean out freezers in order to come up with enough meat for the reception. A grave error as we're fond of saying leechlake
