Good Morning!

Mornin'! Kinda gray here too with .07" of rain in the overnight and this a.m. Still plenty of snow in piles and on the north sides of things. Will be loads of fun re-sodding some of the areas I caught with the tractor and bucket. This is a tough yard to deal with as there are few level spots and the way the oldtimers placed some of the old outbuildings was fine for the horse and buggy days but for more modern accomodations, not so much. Regrading, opening the layout up, and consolidating the buildings would go a long way towards adding future value.

More lambs this a.m. and we thunder down the homestretch. A pair of twin ewe lambs so 36 - 16 at last count. Have more agritourism later today as my brother, his wife, my niece and her little 2 year old are coming to feed the bottle lambs. In the meantime I need to make a feed run and clean this dump up a little.

Glad that pruning got done. That Fireside tree was a bastage. After I take what I want out of it, think I will pile the brush out by the road and put a sign that says: Apple Wood $10 on it so someone will steal it and haul it off. While I was out there snapping these photos, a flock of about 50 - 60 speckle bellies flew over.

For LL's benefit:

very demoralizing and you'll see why when I post the photo of one of my apple trees.  The wife and kids never were too enthused about this apple project I started about ten years ago so I've kind of turned them into dog and bird beneficial trees.  The past three years even an amateur apple man like myself knew why the apples were getting bad.  Too much tree was being grown.  Analogous to me losing my hair as I've gained 1.5 pounds a year for the past 10 years.

I no longer remember what types of trees we even have but there used to be three  trees and one died.  Now it's just two apple trees with some crabb apples as neighbor trees.

The rain quit and the sun came out. Snow's melting away fast. Yard sure is green. (I put on a half-shot of my fertilizer last week) Tweeters singing and hopping around everywhere, including the dopes of the bird world, the robin. Every year, all spring long, everyday, *BONK*THUD*BONK*  flying into my picture window and the other windows. Hung stuff outside, on the window, etc. to no avail. Then there's the ones that perch on the sill and attack their reflection non-stop. Guess there's even idjits in the bird world.

Ya it turned out to be nicer at least in appearance than initially thought. The wind is still raw however as it blows across the remaining snow on the landscape. It's 43 degrees out but it feels more like 33.

Wish we lived a little closer LL. That's a project to be sure but one of those that if two guys took it on, it wouldn't seem nearly so insurmountable. Then I could have you come over to clean barn, and toss hay and straw bales in return! Seriously though, even on our trees, it would be nice sometimes to have some help, to speed the process up if nothing else. And as I've found with the sheep, there are times when enough is too much. We will be cutting back on numbers whether Mrs. Cheviot likes it or not. Cue up "The Man Song". :P

Good day to all of you.  Hey Reb a guy I work with got that implant that vibrates.  It has helped him a lot.  Keeping it charged is a big deal I guess.  If we are working on something all of the sudden he will twitch a little and we laugh.  When you move that muscle that it is connected to it makes it vibrate I guess.  Cliff Claven thing.  He golfs all summer long and it seems to help.

The wife went to the grocery store today to pick up a Hillshire half ham.  I said if they don't have Hillshire get some baby back ribs.  Had an Our Family one and it didn't excite me.  She just texted and they don't have Hillshires so looks like baby backs for Easter on the Daniel Boone pellet grill, with the smoke tube, both running on hickory.  She is going to make a VEGETABLE casserole that I love.  Has cheese on lots of different kinds of veggies.  It is one of my Mom's recipes.  She gave it to us on the phone last night.  She makes it every year for Thanksgiving and about 3 years ago she sent my Dad to the store to get a jar of pearl onions to put in it.  We started eating and my first bite was one with a nice pearl onion in it and it threw me for a loop.  What the????  Well Dad bought pickled pearl onions.  Mom took a bite and I looked at her and she made a funny face too.  I almost started laughing.  She didn't say a word so noone else did neither.  We all joke about this when Mom isn't around now.  Well when she gave us the recipe last night she said whatever you do don't get pickled pearl onions.  LOL

Nothing too exciting going on other than that.  We will be home alone and that is alright with me.  Should be a nice relaxing day.  Happy Easter.

Hey same to you coffee.  As a matter of fact I have a vanilla, hazelnut blend freshly ground in the coffee maker as we speak.  The wife likes that on the weekends, well I do too. She is still in bed so I got up to make coffee feed the dogs and see what you guys are up to while it is still nice and quiet here.

Supposed to be 47 here today.  Looking forward to that.  May take the tracks off the wheeler and put the tires back on for summer.  The wife was going to trim some trees yesterday while I was at work and backed the one with tracks (we call that hers) and she couldn't turn it on the gravel so she used the other one (we call that mine) since it had tires on it and she could steer.  Funny, I drove it straight back in when I got home.

Just heard the pileated wood pecker fly by.  We are having a rack of baby backs since we couldn't find a good ham yesterday.  My last two rib cooks haven't turned out that well so will give it another try.  I might not foil them this time.  Have been thinking of doing the Fast Eddy thing.  Cook a little hotter and only do it for 3 hours I think.  Some guys prefer that method I guess.  Also I saw on a Food Paradise show the other day that this rib place does not take the membrane off so that fat stays juicier during the cook and then they peel it off after the cook.  Came right off easily too.  He just grabbed it and pulled it off. :D I will let you know how it turns out and will try to take some pics.

Well all of you have a nice day and hope whatever you are cooking turns out at least ok.....  lol

Morning gents,  Java is flowing and the birds are chirping.  Remi keeps bringing my shoes to me while I try to get the paper read, he doesn't understand that it's gloomy,  rainy and I'm not taking him this morning for a walk,  great morning to stay inside looking out.

No cooking for this guy today, the Mrs has to whip up a desert to bring over to her sisters place,  smoked ham , cheesy taters and the works to make me wanna go na nite on the couch. All I had yesterday for breakfast was an English muffin,  thinking today I'll make a big skillet, hash browns with 2 runny eggs on top with some hot sauce ...have a great day fellas!!

Happy Easter! Will probably forego cooking seriously today as well. Will get the process started for the shish kabob for early part of the week. Some funerals, more lambing stuff and other circumstances have thrown a monkey wrench into earlier plans. Oh well, I can be queen for a day. :D

Hello fellers.  Not exactly a sunny Easter morning here.  Just heard we need to be at the in laws to eat at 11am.  Complaining on Easter seems bad so I will just say that should open the rest of the day up to do some other stuff.  I'm going to refinish our bedroom end table tops today.  I made them about 10-12 years ago and they need some attention.

Ok, I'll pop in for a bit. Happy Easter, guys. Dark, foggy, soggy here. 39*  Rest of the week doesn't look good, either. Man, am I sick of this weather. Today I'm going to run the snow blowers out of gas, spray cylinders, and put away for the year. Wishful thinking. So, that means we're bound to get more snow. You can blame me. My freezer is empty except for half pkg RH brats and some chicken. Sure was nice buying all that on big sales last year and not having to buy any this winter.  Need to do the summer stock up shopping now. Real soon. Burger and pork should be on sale anytime. Need to smoke of of my ultra-thick pork steaks to bring in Spring. Think some eggs and last of the bacon is what's for breakfast. Easter rabbit didn't make it here. Enjoy the day, guys.

Good morning everybody- Happy Easter!!!! There won't be any serious cooking around here today either, which is just fine with me. I've got a few projects to get finished up, but other than that more or less take it easy. I'll check here from time to time to see if there is any "breaking news" Have a great day!!!!

Boy, everyone must be at it already....29* and frost everywhere, with the sun coming up and starting to melt those frosty rooftops. Supposed to be sunny and mid 50's today, hoping closer to 60*. Found a pkg of chicken wings under the RH sausage, those are going on the charcoal grill with some applewood, and then tossed in that saucy racha sauce Del is always cooing about. I haven't opened the bottle yet, guess I'll be tasting it later before I toss the wings in it. If I don't like it, Del is getting a gift on his doorstep. Need to get some groceries today too, and need to get something different for dinner, as I'm chickened, porked, and pig chopped out,so over to the Fareway Butcher shop to nose around and see what looks good. Nice out tomorrow, too, then a week of rain, so say the wedder morjits. That gives me one more day to sneak in another grill out before the indoor habitation starts. Boy, I'm ready for some sun and warmth. Time for that second cup...have a good day, folks.   coffee-drink-smiley.gif
